Guest wassim Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Hello, I'm having a very strange problem with my Windows Mobile device and was wondering if any of you have had the same issue. I have a new HTC P3600 (Trinity) running Windows Mobile 5.0. Since getting it I have been personalising and tweaking the thing, including adding some third-party software. Well, apparently one of the third-party programs I tried installing didn't agree with my phone, because the next thing I knew, all of my Program icons were gone! That is to say: Normally, under Start -> Programs, I used to have about 20 icons there (including Word Mobile, Excel Mobile, Games, Adobe Reader, etc). Now, the only things in there are Pocket MSN, and the icon for my SIM card (Vodafone)! I can't even find Windows Explorer!! I don't think the programs were actually deleted - for instance, I can still access my mail, messages, and contacts through other icons on my Today screen. I think just the links were removed. Now I've tried a Soft Reset, which didn't help at all. I don't want to do a Hard Reset, because I know that then my PC will force me to set up a new profile (not to mention I'll lose my stored text messages, call history and other stuff). If it's just links that are missing there must be some way to restore them! Unfortunately since the Windows Explorer icon's gone I can't even verify if Pocket Word (for example) is still there. Anybody have any ideas?? Thanks, WASIM
Guest mandt Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 you have a couple of options assign a hardware key to file explorer, then trawl through your phone looking for the .exes and manually create new shortcuts for them or could install a third party file explorer, such as Resco explorer >HERE<or Total commander >HERE< and do the same thing, the reason I say this is that Resco and TC are much quicker than the built in File explorer, and will make your task much easier Or you can hook up the phone to your PC and do it all via ActiveSync
Guest wassim Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 Kay... Looks like assigning keys won't work because, of course, Explorer isn't a bloody option!! And I'm browsing the phone through my computer... it turns out that some stuff was deleted after all (but thankfully not the vital stuff like documents, and phone and messaging and calendar functions. So, thanks for the suggestion Mandt, but I throw in the towel. I was going to try to be a smartass, but it's not happening. NEW QUESTION: Is there any way for me to save the texts and Call History that I've already got? Those are the only things I don't think I'll be able to recover after a Hard Boot (Contacts, Calendar and Docs being recoverable). Please let me know - or do I need to start a new thread? Thanks, WASSIM
