Guest newtonmj Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 (edited) Quite simply, I'd like to connect my SPV M600 to my Linux-based Samba share over WiFi. Has anyone done this? What software did you use? Whilst File Explorer sounds promising with its 'Open Path...' option however I've had no joy. Similarly with Resco File Explorer. Unfortunately (in more ways than one!) I'm at work now so can't provide the errors verbatim, however suffice to say they didn't indicate much. Given the two hit failure I'm guessing it might be something server-side that needs tweaking. Incidentally, the shares are all fully accessible from other Linux/Windows machines, and I can ping/traceroute from the PPC to the server so network connectivity is fine and dandy. Anyone with an experiences to share? For what it's worth, the M600 is WM2005-based hence I don't want to fall into any WM2003-only gotcha's!! Mathew Edited January 25, 2007 by newtonmj
Guest newtonmj Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 (edited) Sorted! Now streaming mp3s from my server to PocketPC! :) It turns out that I should have been connecting by share name and not IP address... D'oh! Also, for File Explorer to connect requires 'Programs that automatically connect to a private network....' in Settings > Connections to be set to anything by 'My Work Network'. Given the WiFi connection is regarded as connecting to the Internet this is sufficient for the device to use it to connect to the LAN - I guess by 'Internet' it actually means anything outside the 'Work Network'. Resco File Explorer requires no such modification - it will happilly connect straight off. Mathew Edited January 25, 2007 by newtonmj
