Since we have to pay for Pocket MSN and Agile Messenger now and the MSN hack doesnt work anymore, does anyone know of any good alternatives we can use for free?

Have you tried this:-

Open PIE on your mobile device

Browse to http://mobile.msn.com/

Click on the 'Messenger beta' link

Login

Seems to work quite well. Give it a try.

You can also access yahoo! messenger on it's page. And there is that free aim client from their UK site. And icq2go (http://www.icq.com/download/icq2go/) may work on ppc (I can't remember if flash 7 is available for ppc or if its stuck on 6).

Since when have you had to pay for Pocket MSN?

Also, PMSN is being replaced by Windows Live Messenger Mobile, still in beta, but the cab file is readily available at sites such as XDA Developers if you search for it. Also free.

imov Messenger is free for Pocket PC, and it seems to work decently (and it's free!). It needs a Jabber server, but they have a list of free Jabber servers, so that's an option. It'll work with AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, ICQ, and Jabber (which includes Google Talk). You can find it here. Unfortunately, the SmartPhone version is pay-only, so I have to figure out what I can do on mine. :)
