Guest bmeek Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 Hello experts, My office has implemented a new voicemail system that forwards new voicemail messages as .WAV format audio files to my Outlook email account. My dilemma is that these .WAV attachments are not encoded using a codec that is recognized by the Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone's Windows Media Player. However, if I manually load one of these files into the Core Media Player (TCPMP), they do play fine. Because Mobile Outlook launches Windows Media Player to play a .WAV attachment, I need to either add a G.711/G.729 codec to the Windows Media Player, or I need to tweak the Smartphone to associate .WAV files with TCPMP and automatically invoke the TCPMP player when I attempt to open the attachment from Outlook. Any suggestions as to how to accomplish either? My phone is an HTC StrTrk (Cingular 3125) in case that makes a difference regarding codec compatibility. Thank you! -- brian

Guest bmeek Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 Check this link: http://www.pda-faq.com/content/view/91/33/ Thanks for the pointer. The "MyExtension from BadSchwii" utility mentioned in the link apparently only works on Pocket PCs, but the discussion prompted me to try an alternate File Explorer... Binarys' SmartExplorer 2.1.4 did the trick by making it easy to edit file type application settings. Now I've got TCPMP getting invoked automatically from within Mobile Outlook. Still curious about adding the correct codec to Windows Media Player, but now that's merely academic. cheers, -- brian
