Has anyone got sky boardband and manage to set up there email account on their MDA ?

I was previously with Telewest and had no problem in setting this up but now i'm with sky

I just can't get it to work on my phone, it works on my pc fine.

Email settings

pop.sky.com

smtp.sky.com

As well as the the normal settings : username > password

The error message I receive is ' MESSAGES CANNOT BE DOWNLOADED TO YOUR MOBILE DEVICE. MAKE SURE YOU ARE CONNECTED AND YOUR INTERNET SETTINGS ARE CORRECT.

THEN TRY TO DOWNLOAD AGAIN.

You don't say which network you're on, but I guess it's T-Mobile if you use an MDA, or which MDA it is.

The smtp needs to be .t-email.co.uk before you will be able to send emails over T-Mobile's servers, but I don't know why Sky would stop you retrieving from your account. My Vario II fetches account details from major providers but I'm not sure if Sky is one of them. My Tiscali a/c was no problem, same as your Telewest :)

Email Sky's techies and ask them for help?

:D

Ahhh, I see. Tiscali aren't too bad in that respect - a call centre in Delhi I think, and they're very keen to sort out whatever problem I have. They even provide IM support with remote access too.

I really can't see why Sky would stop you retrieving mail. Do they have webmail you could try via PIE? Having said that, each time my mate has tried to access his Yahoo a/c via webmail on my VII, it closes the browser double quick. Can't work that one out either :)

As far as I know, Sky are the same as BT in that they will not allow you to download emails via an email client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail Desktop etc) unless you are connected using your router.

So you may find that you can download emails using your MDA Vario 2 when connected to your wireless Sky router, but not over GPRS. :)

BT provide webmail, and so do Sky however I never seem to be able to log in to the Sky webmail when I am at work.

(BTW: PIE stands for Pocket Internet Explorer)

Ok SOny, don't listen to the CR@P that people spurt on some of these pages. Sky email is possible on ANY client. I use Outlook 2007 and 2003.

This remedy also applies if you have problems logging into the Webmail (www.skybroadband.com) with your default password:

You need to go to www.sky.com and log in to My Sky, and Profile, then Edit and change your password. You can enter the same one again, or your Broadband one, or a new one it does not matter. Sky Broadband gives you a password and most people have a seperate one for the Sky.com website (for their services, TV etc). The two passwords then bounce off each other when trying to access Sky Broadband, as you use the same User Name.

Once you have changed your password, you should be able to log on to Webmail and use Pocket Internet Explorer to do so too.

To use Pocket Outlook, you need to now delete all your email settings and start again. Enter your email address, user name and password and required and let the MDA search the web for settings. It won't find any so click manual when it asks.

Select POP3 and type name (eg Sky Email). Then Next.

Enter POP.SKY.COM for incoming and SMTP.T-EMAIL.CO.UK for outgoing.

Click finish without messing with any other settings. You should now be able to receive and send emails via you handset.

I do find the service a little tentative at times, particuarly if you are using GPRS instead of 3G or have low signal (Sky's servers can be a little slow). If you still have problems, allow internet passthrough via Activesync, and plug you MDA into the computer and try to send/receive. If you are still struggling, delete all your email settings once more, and go onto the T-Mobile support site and enter the details there. T-Mobile will then text the settings to your phone.

Sky can be a pain but they are only victims of their own success (and a little short sighted) in that they never forsaw than so many people would want to sign up to their service so quick. But they don't restrict your service in any way (apart from the download limits if you are on the free or £4.99 packages).

Hope this helps..
