Guest bingobob Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 My Vario and BT GPS receiver are working great in the car. I've just dived in and am just trying things out, but I'm rapidly realising that I need some sort of solution to position the vario better. The BT receiver is fine, it seems to fit snuggly under the windscreen in all cars. Do I need a specific Vario holder or is anyone using a generic one or maybe one for a mobile phone or ipod or something like that, I'm sure ebay will be my first stop, I will have a look. Any tips appreciatted. I have a Ford Ka, in case that matters. cheers bb
Guest sparkymodaco Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 I've used the krussel quickmounter on an imate sp3 and an MDA Vario II with no problems. http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/5327.htm Metal plate is very thin and fits between battery and cover (stick it to battery, not the cover). Magnet is strong enough so it will not drop off, even over speed bumps. Adhesive on magnet can be cleaned after removal with alcohol. Does no affect screen or comms, I use it with bluetooth gps. Plus point is the magnet does not give any messages to thieves that valuable bit of kit may be in the glove box
Guest mandt Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 ....I'm sure ebay will be my first stop.... Hi, If it's any help I got mine from eBay, an air vent type. Cost me four whole pounds, (eight with postage) works perfectly and is still going strong after over a year ...and it does't leave any tell-tale marks on your windscreen!!!!! This is it: ebay Doesn't do landscape but if that doesn't bother you it don't matter :)
Guest bingobob Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 Cheers, couple of ideas there. For some reason I'm tempted by the magnet one. Thanks for the advice. What do you use for car cigarette lighter socket USB charging? I could do with something that will charge both my Vario II and the Holox BT-321 Bluetooth receiver (not necessarily at the same time), I think they have different power requirements on the USB charging ports, can this be right or is all USB charging output the same? I don't want to break anything.
Guest FragMeister Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 I also got a gooseneck magnetic mount, but from Proporta. I guess that the thickness of the plate you stick to the back of the phone was thicker than on the one mentioned earlier as it would not fit between the battery and the back cover. when stuck onto he back cover the high strength magnet ended up pulling the back off the phone. another big problem was that the Vario II uses a magnet to tell the phone that the keyboard is open, so the phone also went into landscape when taken off mount. It went back for a refund and I now have an EXCELLENT brodit mount. you can get one which includes a power charger for about the same price as buying a car charger from a store.
Guest spiderboy Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 (edited) I have returned my Vario II after two weeks of frustration but now sit with a nearly brand new Brodit Active car cradle. I am selling it on ebay here if anyone is interested. Edited February 22, 2007 by spiderboy
