Guest toon9 Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 I'm sure to be covering old ground with the vast majority here, but after several unsuccessful searches at modaco, I came across a fix to my problem elsewhere on the net. I'm posting here so as it may just help someone who, like me before them, could not readily find the answer in these great pages. I was recently running very low on storage memory on my PPC as can be seen below : I found out that by doing the following had a dramatic effect on freeing up some valuable Storage Memory : From within Internet explorer on the device, navigate to Menu >> Tools >> Options and select the Memory Tab. Now tap the "Delete Files" option button. From what I can gather this removes the history of pages visited and the results for me far exceeded my expectations. I freed up almost 15mb of memory this way, as can be seen below. I hope this might help someone else as it did me.
Guest mandt Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 You can move your PIE Cache permanently if you don't mind a bit of Registry editing, as you've found out it can save a fair bit of room, heres how: Make a folder on the root of your Storage Card called 'Pocket IE' Create three subfolders, 'Cookies' 'History' and 'Temporary Internet Files' Now fire up a registry editor and navigate to 'HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders' And change the following strings: 'Cache' change to '\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Temporary Internet Files\' 'Cookies' change to '\Storage Card\Pocket IE\Cookies' 'History' change to '\Storage Card\Pocket IE\History' Soft reset to see the changes :) Disclaimer: Edit your registry at your own risk etc, etc Have fun tweaking!!!
Guest AlanJC Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 Or you could just install this tiny free application, and use it to clear out the temp files, and set the option to do this whenever you perform a soft reset.

I had a small problem running out of memory so I thought I would check that I had really applied these changes a long time ago - and I had. But PIE is *STILL* writing its files to the \windows\temporary..... directory! And - yes I have reset since making the changes (about 3 months ago!) Help!
Guest mandt Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Wierd, Clear your cache again. Instead of soft-reseting, power off the device by holding down the power key for a couple of seconds (Sometimes known as a registry flush) Reboot and see if it works now
Guest mikeeey Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 on my phone i have 2.3mb of free memory. ive always had temporary internet files go to my storage card, so it's not that that's taking up all of my memory. the only way i can fix this and make it go back to 15mb is a hard reset, and i really dont wanna do that. also ive searched through all the folders on my phone and cleared out as much as i could. the only folder i havnt cleared out is the windows folder, cuz i wouldnt know what to and what not to delete. any advice guys?
