Guest RB_ Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 Hi, been trying to use WiFi on my Vario II but i'm having a a few problem. i have logged on to my router, entered the password and added the phone to the trusted devices list but it dosn't seem to stay connect. all it seems to do is scan for the other wireless networks that were listed on the phone when i bought it. will it help if i delete these? ie: will it stop trying to connect to them and just stay connected to my router as it's the only 1 listed, or do i need these networks on there and if i delete them i'll have other problems? i'm thinking these networks are public ones that people might use in coffee shops, airports ect... if so i'm never gonna use these. heres list of all the networks listed. SkyLAN dragon T-Mobile_t-Com Mobile FMO-Public mobileandmail Air-LAN public any wifiarea BTOpenzone T-Mobile tcom tmobile 1 or 2 might have been found and added by me while i was out. they all have the same settings. Connects to: The Internet Authentication: Open Data Encryption: Disabled so if i did want to have them on there again it's just a case of adding them manually, am i right?? as i’ve only had the handset a few days i’m not confident and don’t wanna mess about changing the software for a non t-mobile version. the version info from my handset is HERM300 IPL-1.01 SPL-1.04 any help would be appreciated. Mick
Guest Dr Who Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 Can you be a bit more specific? Your router is set to broadcast its SSID. i.e. is discoverable? What encryption are you using? What router are you using? You set the handset to look for the network or you have added the info manually?
Guest RB_ Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 the Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID) box is ticked im using 128bit WEP encryption it's Netgear DG834GT it's set to g&b mode but i've also tried on g only mode it's using channel 4 the handset has searched, found and connected to the router once i entered the correct key i've added the mac address of the phone to the wireless station access list and tried with the access control turned i've also tried with the WEP encryption off it does connect sometimes but seems to drop connection and search for other out of the list i spoke about, can these other be delete? thanks for your reply
Guest Dr Who Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 Channel 4 is a bit of an unusual choice? 1, 6 and 11 are the 'default' non-overlapping channels. I don't remember seeing a setting for channel on the Vario II but I would try changing the router to 6 or 11 initially.
Guest Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 Have I just got the Vario II mixed up with the MDA Compact III or was Wifi supposed to be disabled on the Vario II? :)
Guest marisa4755 Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 No, wifi is fine on Vario II, I use it every day. RB_ Just an idea, but it worked for me. Have you tried changing that Open setting to shared? then soft reset and try it again.
Guest RB_ Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 (edited) I originally had it on channel 6 because that’s the only one that worked for Super g, but when I got my PSP and Laptop neither of them supported Super g. I changed to b & g but started getting problems as one of my neighbours were using channel 6 on g & b so I changed to channel 4. Anyway I’ve moved since then (only 6 houses away lol) so after all your suggestions I’ve tried channel 6 again and changed the Open Setting to Shared done a soft reset and POW it connect straight away even before the PIN was entered. Many thanks for all your help, even through I have unlimited web’n’walk with t-mobile the reception in most of my house is terrible. Mick Edited February 12, 2007 by RB_
Guest marisa4755 Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 Glad it's working for you now.
