Guest Paul (MVP) Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 Windows Live Search, the Google Local / Maps like application for Windows Mobile, has been updated with specific UK support. If you've been playing with the Google Maps mobile client, you'll find this very similar (with GPS support etc), but with the added bonus that a. it doesn't eat all your device memory and b. it now explicitly supports the UK. The application, which can be downloaded, from http://wls.live.com (hit that up from your device), is available both in Windows Mobile native and Java versions. P Via: Tracy and Matt's blog
Guest tsutton Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 (edited) Odeon Cinema in that area?? :) Going to try it tonight... (left the GPS device at home!) But tried it and it's muuuuuuch better than Google Maps Mobile! Edited February 12, 2007 by tsutton
Guest ZSX Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 Works great on my Ubiquio 501 (WM5) but not, unfortunately, on my older iPAQ 4350 (WM2003PPCFE). What is strange is that the older beta version functions beautifully on the iPAQ.
Guest mandt Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 This is awesome!! Been waiting for a UK version for a while now now I really do NEED a 3G handset! Paul, I see from your screenshots you're also getting duplicated search results, bit annoynig that eh...
Guest tsutton Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 Tried the GPS location... seems to be a bit off for me... it located me 2 or 3 street down where CameraAware got me perfect spot (by looking at the tracking line on Google Maps) Anyone seeing the same thing?
Guest Sp00k Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 The same CAB file ( Download for your Windows Mobile phone ) from that link, installs and runs fine on a C600 BTW... So it's not only you guys with the the big screens, and phones to match :), that can have a play on this... Brief impressions: Truly appalling satellite-map definition at max. zoom... Useless for my amateur 'spy-in-the-sky' aspirations. :D The Google version, having both higher definition and magnification, totally wipes the floor with it... Not impressed, uninstalled.
Guest cpetzny Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Never get any search results, only a dialog box saying "Sorry, we couldn't complete your search request. Please check your network connection." Mind you, google never gives me any results either, maybe there really is something wrong with my connection. Anyone else seen this? C
Guest mandt Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Cant get it to talk to my GPS unit :) has anyone else noticed the sattelite photos are about six years old!!
Guest FragMeister Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Brief impressions: Truly appalling satellite-map definition at max. zoom... Useless for my amateur 'spy-in-the-sky' aspirations. :) The Google version, having both higher definition and magnification, totally wipes the floor with it... Not impressed, uninstalled. It depends very much on the area of the country. For me, Google is terrible, whereas Live has good defnition when zoomed in
Guest Complex Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 Looks like a very neat application. Anybody have any ideas how I set up the "Centre GPS" on my Ameo? I believe I have played around with all the setting within Settings=>GPS but I can't find which Com Port links the GPS to the maps.
