Guest kimaswan Posted January 25, 2003 Report Posted January 25, 2003 Hello, I want to know if I can use for my SPV some MMC Card because I don't want to buy SD Card which is more expensive ??? And I can use all MMC Card (16, 32, 64, 128 , 256 ...) ??? Thanks
Guest yatpeak Posted January 25, 2003 Report Posted January 25, 2003 You should be able to use both MMC and SD. Using MMCs of different sizes shouldn't be a problem, they should all be just as compatible as each other. I'll just check whether MMCs do work. Wyatt
Guest HelloDave Posted January 25, 2003 Report Posted January 25, 2003 It was rumoured that some MMCs aren't compatible with the SPV - best to try before you buy! MMCs normally work, it's just certain cards that the SPV is fussy with. I've had two SD cards and one MMC and they all work perfectly.
Guest Trancemaster Posted January 26, 2003 Report Posted January 26, 2003 I've found SD cards to be cheaper than MMC.
Guest Gorskar Posted January 26, 2003 Report Posted January 26, 2003 I couldn't see much difference in price. Both work, so just get whatever you can find cheapest. I went for a 128Mb SD card, mainly cause SD is a slightly newer spec, and (some people say) slightly faster.
Guest solo Posted January 26, 2003 Report Posted January 26, 2003 I purchased the following through eBay for £89.99 + £4.99 postage. It only took about a week to come through from the USA. It was the best price I found anywhere. 256MB SECURE DIGITAL SD Memory Card 256 MB. HTH Solo
Guest yatpeak Posted January 26, 2003 Report Posted January 26, 2003 I use one of those, but I don't think I'll ever fill it up, at the moment I've only used 60mb and I've loaded all that I think I'll ever use, except for new apps and games of course! Wyatt
Guest cbcox Posted January 26, 2003 Report Posted January 26, 2003 I got a 64mb MMC by "Integral" from ebuyer, about £25 inc vat and delivery, works fine.
Guest Roadster Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 I went for a 128Mb SD card, mainly cause SD is a slightly newer spec, and (some people say) slightly faster. As I understand it there is no difference between a Multi Media Card (MMC) and a Secure Digital Card(SD) as far as storing the data. The SD cards have a small plastic lock on them (bit like floppy disks had), hence the name SECURE digital. MMC don't have this plastic lock. So the cost difference u are paying is for manufacturing that little plastic lock, which lets face it no one ever uses!
Guest Bazz Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 SD cards also allow some sort of digital encryption I think, but most people don't use it. Also SD cards are a lot faster if you use a seperate reader, but through the SPV they are the same. I wouldn't pay much extra for an SD, but if they are the same price then go for the SD as it should be more future proof.
