Just got this:

Orange announces deals with Vodafone and T-Mobile which will allow customers to send and receive picture messages across all UK networks from Monday.

(Might be old news to some of you but I hadn't seen anything on it!)

I remember when SMS was only to the same network as you. Once it opened up, it exploded on the scene. The same may happen with MMS, but I'm a tad sceptical.

I'm also waiting for the first picture phone scandal!!

Yes and hopefully the increase in usage will mean a decrease in price. But that is wishful thinking.

You know that they will probably put the price up to capitalise

Hmmm i cant see MMS taking off like SMS for a while, well until a lot more people have MMS capable phones. I have sent exactley zero MMS since i have had my SPV. Also i never carry the camera around with me, so there isn't really much of a need for MMS with me.

I think that when all phones have camera's built in, and the mono screen phones are off the market MMS will take off then.

There has been MMS scandals already. apparently some lesiure centres have banned picture phones as they recon peadophiles could be using them to take pictures of small children in the changing rooms. but if you ask me it is much easier to conseal a digital camera than a phone with a camera. definately much easier to take a photo with a consealed camera any way

Cymruan, yeah, I read that on this site a month or two ago. I think someone was asking how to disable the sound played when taking a picture. It's not so much concealed use they are trying to stop. Many folk come out of sports halls etc and check their phone for messages, so fidling about with a mobile is common place. Folks wouldn't be too happy if someone was messing around with a camera in a looker room though!! Now that the distinction is becoming burry between the two, it makes sense.

I don't buy the paedo story tho...this sort of thing has been consistently in decline over the past 50 years, although the internet did give them an opportunity to meet up. Like terrorism, paedos are pretty much used as a tool to scare people for various reasons, such as political or personal goals, or something as simple as increasing newspaper circulation. A photo of an abducted child sells millions when it's on the front page. Tragic but true.
