Guest lyserg Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Hi. I am currently away on a trip for a few months and I am wondering what I need to know and think about if I install ActiveSync on a public computer to be able to plug in my phone to upload a few pictures to it? The only reason I want to plug it in is to be able to copy some pictures from my mail onto my phone. That wont interfer with my calendar and tasks, right? (As there is no Outlook or anything installed on the computer...) Will it be a "clean task" to just plugin the phone after installing ActiveSync and upload the pictures? Do I even have to install ActiveSync to be able to upload pictures to my storage card, or is there another easier way? Anything else I need to think about when doing this? Thank you very much!
Guest Confucious Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Not a good idea - I would hope most public computers wouldn't allow you to install software anyway! Try http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=...p;hl=wm5storage instead. HTH

Try http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=...p;hl=wm5storage instead. HTH Thank you for the tip. But, these computers do allow me to install software, already installed other software. (And of course I have made a virus/spyware/keylogger-check so that is under control) Just wanted to know what could happen to the syncing-process on the phone...
Guest notaliberal Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 When you plug your phone in (after installing active sync, etc), active sync will pop up a window to set up your partnership. If, at that point, you just hit "cancel" - you will still be able to transfer files to and from the phone, as well as install programs, etc. In other words, as long as you hit cancel and don't set up a partnership, it won't sync anything at all, so your calendar and tasks will remain untouched. Good luck,
Guest Confucious Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Why not just use WM5storage? then you don't need to install any s/ware and can use your phone on any PC.
Guest notaliberal Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Why not just use WM5storage? then you don't need to install any s/ware and can use your phone on any PC. That's very true. However, and I"m not trying to argue, but I have two questions. Doesn't WM5 Storage require you to reboot the phone at least once, either before or after using it, to get the phone to mount it as "Storage Card" again? And doesn't it increase your chance of having the card get mounted as "Storage Card2" when you do reboot? ...Because rebooting these things more than we already have to is annoying as all get out!! :D Perhaps I'm totally off the mark here, please correct me if so. In the end, lyserg, either will work. As Confucious say ( :) ), using WM5 storage would allow you to use any computer, even one where you don't have permission to install Active Sync. Good luck,
Guest Sogarth Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Granted, I've been using a PPC rather than a SmartPhone, but I haven't had to reboot my device to get it to "mount it as Storage Card again." All I did was launch WM5torage, plug it into my computer, and when I was done, I shut down WM5torage and went on with business as usual. The only problem I had was because I had a Today plugin (the equivalent to your homescreen plugins) that was scanning the Storage Card regularly for files, so WM5torage was complaining it couldn't get exclusive access to the Storage Card. Also, getting "Storage Card2" usually happens when you already have something (usually an empty folder) as "Storage Card". After you do that, you should be able to pop out your card and pop it back in, and it'll get loaded as "Storage Card" again.

Good luck, wha? no u just run the program, press the "activate" button, and there u go. thats all there is to it. then press "de-activate" when your done. :D
Guest notaliberal Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 THanks for the corrections. I indeed was totally off the mark on how WM5 storage worked... Is it still that easy if you have programs installed on the card, and have your emails getting put on the card as well? Won't it cause issues if the email program tries to write to the card while you've got WM5 storage using it, resulting in the email program having to create the folder "Storage Card" in the main memory? Please advise. Also, since I"m thinking about trying WM5 storage now, do I need to stop active sync from allowing USB connections before I plug the phone in to the PC? Thanks,
