problem unlocking spv for unsigned apps HELP NEEDED PLEASEEE

someone please help me i have tried 3 times to unlock my spv so i can use unsigned apps! (especially quake!)!!!!

this is wot i ahve done , however it just doesnt seem to work!!!

1. i have copied across the two files onto my desktop. this leaves the originals in the windows folder on the smartphone.

2. I have opened both of these files up using note pad, found the characteristic security policy, deleted it and copied across EXACTLY wot was in the thread about unlocking the spv.

3. Then i have changed the name of the first browser to orange new, as instructed.

4.I do all of this while the spv is on its cradle.

5.I then take the spv from the cradle, turn it off, turn it on and hold the voice record button, and follow through the steps of erasing the ipsm.

6. i then place the fone back on its cradle once the blue smartphone screen appears.

7. I then copy the two editted files aross from my desktop, to the windows folder. it asks if i want to replace the originals with them and i say yes.

8. i wait a while, and then find that the internet favourite has not changed, and i am unable to install doom, error not certified application.

however on further looks, i find that the editted files are still in the windows folders, fully editted as put. however they now appear to be saved with the note pad icon in the smartphone directory.

can some please help me here am i doing sumthing blindly stupid?

any help to allow me to unlock my spv would be brilliant!!

I have yet to download and install Doom but by any chance is it a .exe file. Its just I was told that not al.exe files work (only the .cabs). Maybe someone who has downloaded and installed doom can help you any further.

no i dotn think its got nething to do with doom its to do with the unlocking process as the 1st favourite, orange, hasnt changed to orange new.

someone please help ? id be really greatful if some one who has unlocked their spv, cud give me a really detailed overview of exactly wot they did.

It took me about 10 tries to get this working. Keep trying.

Some hints: at the 3colour canary screen you get after the hard reset, but before you reset your phone: instead of holding down the power button to reset it, take the battery out for about 15 seconds and replace it.

Have both windows open and visible, and the activesync visible also.

Copy the files across as soon as you can (ie, when the files in the windows folder become visible again) Quickly click yes to all when asked to replace files. You may see the homescreen reappear on your phone before, or during copying these files, but don't worry. Just WAIT a minute or so, then check to see if the browser favorite has changed.

Thats how I eventually got mine to unlock.

You may want to try the Gameboy emulator...

Its fab - All respec goes to SPACEMONKEY....

Man you can get no ends of games with this baby so DOOM will be the last thing on your mind G....

sorry 4give me for being thick but what exactly does an emulator do? gameboy emulator? im very new to all this programming stuff, so im quite interested in finding out more as it seems really satisfying to sort ur own games out and run them urself on ur spv.

I try to unlock my SPV (for non certified appz) - and first time is OK - unlocked!

sorry 4give me for being thick but what exactly does an emulator do? gameboy emulator?

It makes your SPV emulate a gameboy obviously ;-)

Basically it makes your SPV pretend to be a Gameboy so it can run Gameboy games. Because it doesn't have a slot to put your Gameboy cartridges into, you have to copy the game from Gameboy cartridge (the ROM) to your phone. Unless you've got specialised hardware this isn't easy so it's probably best to download the ROMS from the Net.

However this basically allows you to run Gameboy games without buying them which is basically software piracy. Nintendo obviously doesn't like this and closes down any site which has ROMS on it, so it can be difficult getting hold of them.

In theory you are allowed to own download ROMS for games you already bought and paid for, but downloading ROMS you never paid for is illegal. The emulator isn't illegal at all.

Oh it's complicated business, but very worthwhile! Once you write an emulator (or port someone elses) all Gameboy ROMS should run on it. There are already Emulators for your PC and other things so there are loads of ROMS out there - all of which should work on the SPV now! Suddenly we've gone from a few games on the SPV to thousands! Woo Hoo!

im having a problem running the doom app. ive copied both files from the zipped download off here, doom1.wad and the doomspv into programs> games. i then try and run the doomspv app and it says it cannot find the doom1.wad file! but its right there aswell in the game folder.

wot am i doing wrong any1?

nah strangely the correct directory structure is

d i wondered if u had downloaded and installed teteris. the download i got from smartphony doesnt have any .exe files in it. it only has xml and a .001 file. wot do i do with these and how do i run the game. cheers mate

all i did was put it in my games folder on my sd card and then created a shortcut to tetris in IPSM/WindowsStart MenuGames then go into the games folder on your phone and open tetris

Put the whole file you downloaded onto the storage card

it's a cab file and not a zip file.

use all-explorer to run the cab file and you will then

have Tetris up and running ;)
