Guest holgmaster Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 Hi guys, I am in a little dilemma. After my Vario was freezing on me every few minutes and sucked my battery empty within a few hours, I decided to try the test HTC AKU 3.3 rom from xda dev. team and upgraded last night. I backed all stuff up prior to the rom upgrade. The Vario is now super stable and does not freeze anymore. However in all the act, I forgot to save the dial up/network settings for the 3g network and now I cannot connect to the internet anymore. Could someone please post me their settings from their Vario II and or post a cab file that will setup the Vario II again for TMob uk? i have tried the cab files from the xda dev. tmob Uk but that installs only their application bar, wall paper etc but no connection settings. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Guest Christopher Woods Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 Interesting... So you'd say that it's definitely worth upgrading to the 3.3 rom, now that you've had a bit of time to get used to it compared to your old rom? Hmm. I remember when I upgraded my ROM for my 2i from the xda-devs forum, it was like night and day the difference it made (particularly for signal strength in borderline areas)... Wondering if I can be arsed to go through all the hassle of reinstalling everything again ;)

It seems a lot more responsive now, hasn't crashed once since upgrading and also the battery seems to last for longer, even though I am still continuously connected to HSDPA for push e-mail.

Anyone care to post exactly which rom (cingular or HTC? which is better?), how you upgraded (just run the upgrader, or manually via mtty? Now that there's a new rom-uploading method I guess we're not tied to the old radio bootloader any more...) and which t-mobile or other customisations you ran after the upgrade. Do old features still work like the smart-dialer and scroll-wheel shortcuts? Any tips? I've read the all the xda-dev FAQs and boards etc but there's so much and nothing specifically on tmobile uk. I've had enough of mine crashing so I'm considering going ahead with the upgrade tonight. Thanks in advance :-)
Guest AdWright Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 It wasn't too tricky. I just followed the instructions in a stickied thread of the hermes xda-dev forum. I used the HTC 3.3 rom, changed my bootloader from 1.4 to 1.1 (apparently not strictly necessary), uploaded the new Rom, and then plugged in all of the T-mobile data settings to get my connection back. Worked with no problems. Haven't put any of the nasty T-mobile crap back on there. What's smart dialer and what are the scroll-wheel shortcuts you are talking about?

Smartdialer is the thing which lets you type a few digets to have it search through your phone book based on contact name... a bit like t9 for addressbook lookup, so the t9 "dictionary" is the names of your contacts. The scrollwheel shortcuts are down for your speed dials and up for the call history. Not sure about other t-mob customizations but it would be nice to see a definitive list of what they did and whether they're needed...

Well, my Vario II always had the smartdialer and still does after the upgrade. Same goes for the scrollwheel
