How to dump a ROM?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We have managed to acquire a 9100 running WM6 at work. A colleague wants to effectively "dump" the ROM, and install it on his Vario II. How can this be done!?

Is it easy? Risky? Worthwhile?

Any hints / tips / pointers would be very useful indeed!

Thanks,

Yrrep

best place for talking about ROMs is www.xda-developers.com, lots of people experienced in doing this over there.

You can find the WWE WM6 installer on the internet for the Wizard. However, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES INSTALL THIS ON A HTC HERMES!

They are completely different devices and your colleague will end up with a very expensive paperweight. Not to mention the fact that even if he DID manage to dump your ROM, he'd have to compile it into either a .nb file and then install an MFG bootloader onto his hermes in order to flash it to the correct memory address. Or an NBH file for use with the shipped RUU's

However, that said. The Hermes is a complete different device (based on the Samsung SC2442A processor, qualcomm 6275 radio chipset) to the HTC wizard (TI OMAP 850 processor with built in GSM/GPRS/EDGE management) and flashing a HTC wizard ROM to a HTC Hermes WILL brick the device.

/end of lesson ;)
