Training Phone? What is one?

My brother had a problem with his M600. It was within warranty so he sent it off to a HTC dealer.

They repaired the phone but rang him up asking where he got it from (It was from Orange) as the phone was a "Training Phone" which should not have gone out to the public. He asked what one was but they just said it was no worse for him but would not say if there was extra features hidden away.

Anyone know what a "Traning Phone" is?

Do you know what the ROM version was? it may have been an early pre-release unit as a guess.
