Guest andyfitter Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 I see that Orange has officially launched HSDPA, at least in London anyway, and branded it Orange 3G+ http://www.business.orange.co.uk/servlet/S...d=1044133173948 Is there anybody out there in London with an M3100 that has noticed any change? Apparently, using the 'fieldtest' application, if the page showing HSDPA CQI status shows anything other than zeros you are on HSDPA. I've seen this a number of times, with values ranging for 1 to 31, yet all the speed tests I've done I've never managed more than about 300kbps, the same as 'normal' 3G. Anybody know what needs to be done to take advantage of the bigger bandwidth? Andy.
Guest jimbouk Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 Irony! Just tried to open a web page... and it woudlnt connect at all! I think 3g+ as they call it hasnt actually been turned on yet - but I might be wrong.
Guest jimbouk Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 The intermittent Orange 3G issue reared its ugly head. Changed the default connection from Orange 3G GPRS to Orange 3G Wap and am now connected fine again... no doubt will need to change it back again tomorrow... In the meantime - data speed of only 160kb... so no HSDPA here yet in London.
Guest robcoh Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 Im feeling slightly stupid, im in london and own an SPV M3100, but could someone advise me as to what the field test application is? Im on an orange business contract if that helps. Thanks Rob
Guest jimbouk Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 Its an app that you can download from elsewhere to run on your device that shows details of GSM/3G/Hsdpa activity etc. Have a look on the XDA Wiki. I still dont think O have turned HSDPA on yet...

Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 I believe the G/U/3G/etc icon should display a "H" when you have HSDPA connectivity, maybe 3G+ on the Orange handsets?
Guest AdWright Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 I believe the G/U/3G/etc icon should display a "H" when you have HSDPA connectivity, maybe 3G+ on the Orange handsets? Only with the latest rom/radio stack
Guest jimbouk Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 It displays an H when there's network traffic. IE it shows 3G and then when you browse or collect emails it changes to an H if you are using an HSDPA cell.

Guest jimbouk Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 I have upgraded my radio rom to 1.27.00.00 and get HSDPA fine. It doesnt work all over London yet but so far I have had "H" in Richmond, Ealing, Chiswick, Wandsworth, Clapham, W1, SW1, but not at Waterloo! Firstly you need to make sure that HSDPA is enabled on your device, secondly you need a later radio stack than 1.06, thirdly the "h" only shows whilst there is actual network traffic - ie it shows 3G whilst the connection is passive and changes to an H when packets of data are flowing.

(i didnt seem to find anything regarding hsdpa in my current rom) thanks!

Are you saying that all I technically need is a new radio ROM, and no need to upgrade to WM6 to see the 'H'? I say this as I'm on radio ROM 1.38 but still the original WM5 system ROM, and I've definitely seen HSDPA traffic, but never seen the 'H' appear. Andy.
Guest jimbouk Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 (edited) AFAIK, you need a later radio rom than 1.06 to get HSDPA working and you need a cab file to get the H icon running (or WM6). And yes O will not cover your device if you change the radio rom or the the OS Edited April 3, 2007 by jimbouk

It is possible to brick your phone so read everything before considering it. http://xda.developers.com For example (upgrading to WM6) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=302433 Edited April 13, 2007 by plainz
