Guest wonderstoat Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 Hi Can anyone help me? I have so far been unsuccessful at linking my M3100 via bluetooth and using it as a modem for my XP laptop. Does anyone know if this is possible, and where I should be looking for a relatively simple tutorial? I "upgraded" from a Nokia 6233 that had a pretty Nifty "One touch" 3G Bluetooth Internet Connection. It's inconceivable to me that something similar isn't possible for this much more flexible, more expensive device. I can't believe that HTC/Orange/Somebody hasn't issued a fix or patch for this. I am not interested in using USB, as the whole idea is to minimise the cables I have to bring on the road. Besides, I've heard it's unreliable as well. I'm on the road a lot, and I now find myself getting excel spreadsheets on my M3100 email, zapping them via Infrared over to my laptop where I can work on them, then zapping them back to email them back using the M3100! LOL! Talk about 1 step forward, 3 steps back! If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Also - are there any firmware updates for the Tytn that I should be looking out for? Thanks Stoatie
Guest AdWright Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 I managed to get it working for my Vario II using the tutorial in this thread. However, that's not really much help for you on Orange, unless you can find out equivalent settings for your network. However, there is another solution. I have recently upgraded my vario to the default HTC Tytn AKU 3.3 ROM. This replaces the useless modem thingy with "Internet Sharing". I just tried this and it works flawlessly and requires no real configuration from your PC. You turn on Bluetooth on your phone, activate internet sharing. Then, with your XP PC, go to Network Connections, Bluetooth area network (or similar - can't remember the exact name). The PC should then find your phone, hook up to it and bob's your uncle.

Can you tell me where I can get that ROM? Is it difficult to install. Will it affect much on my current build. I've removed all of the Orange crap. Thanks!

Am I correct in thinking that you went ahead and installed the 'vanilla' ROM from HTC. i.e. = not the T Mobile specific ROM? Does that screw up all the email/voicemailbox/service provider settings? Sorry for the obvious question, but this is all new to me - the reason I ask is because at xdadevelopers the only available Orange ROM is several versions behind. Is it OK (Warranty aside) to install the generic HTC ROM?
