Guest techno28 Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Hi. I just got an O2 Orbit last week. Nice bit of kit - so far - but this morning I got up to find that the GPRS was running and had been for 11hrs 30mins. Does anyone know why? The Quick GPS was updated via "active sync" only 24hrs previous. Can the GPRS be switched off - can't think why I'd need it to be honest. Thanks in advance.
Guest jimbouk Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 GPRS connected to the network isnt the issue - its actual data transfer that will be a) draining battery and ;) costing you money. It could be due to various different apps wanting to connect - eg activesync, any today plugins that connect to update themselses, pop mail, windows live? One way to check is to push and hold the hang up key for four seconds (which disconnects GPRS) and then watch to see if it reconnects.
Guest techno28 Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Jimbouk, Thanks for that. I did disconnect GPRS and it hasn't re-connected. I suppose, I think, that, as I wasn't attempting to download anything, I will not have been charged for anything. Right? GPRS has "self-connected" for some reason through the night but is waiting for me to perform downloads yeah? Confused!?!?!?!
Guest jimbouk Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 It will usually only connect if it actually needs to. Might be worth installing a trial version of SPB GPRS monitor so similar so you can see if there's any data usage?
Guest techno28 Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Yep - done that now. Hope I'm ok. 11hrs at £3 per meg would be monsterous!!!!!!
