Guest notaliberal Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 Until last Friday, I had been able to stream radio over GPRS with my $5.99/mo t-zones plan (using the standard t-mobile proxy that has been listed 1000 times here). It had started working a few months back when I assume T-Mobile removed the block on port 80 for the t-zones plans. However, as of last friday, I can no longer connect with TCPMP. Says could not open URL, which is exactly what it said before t-zones opened the port up for us. Are all you other t-zones users seeing this as well, or did something funky happen on my end? I had actually started to gain a little respect for my service provider, thinking they were the only ones kind enough to allow cheap access across port 80. I hope I didn't think too soon... Thanks,
Guest Bade Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 I have the same problem... my email still works tho.
Guest notaliberal Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 Yep, email still works, and web browsing still works through the 216.155.165.50 proxy. It's just the darn streaming. I think the problem may be in part that the players (TCPMP and Media Player) wont' use the proxy settings that the browser uses, so it's only trying to pass the stream through on port 80. I wish TCPMP would come up with proxy support. I thought that they were going to do that at some point... However, for all I know, even if TCPMP would do that, t-mo could still block out streamed content through the proxy server I suppose... Man, it was so nice to be able to listen to the radio when I'm at work, because I'm in a shielded lab and don't get any AM/FM signal, though the cell signal is fine... ;) Come on T-mobile, be nice and open stuff back up. I pay you alot of money each month, and have for years!!!!!!!
Guest pankul Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 I am in NYC area, and I can confirm that i have the same problem. As of yesteray 7:00 pm est my phone was able to connect to web directly. But now i cant. I restarted many times, no luck. I guess I will have to revert to the PROXY settings ... which make the browser work. I really hope the proxy settings also make the Direct PUSH work... else I will be pissed !
Guest pankul Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 I also searched Howard Forums ... users have reported the same issue ... http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php...ge=25&pp=15 See post 373. I guess those nice freebie days are over ... we will have to revert to proxy settings for now for web access. However I am not sure streaming etc from other apps will work as they dont respect proxy settings. angry:
Guest notaliberal Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 Yep, I too went back to the proxy settings. Email still works though, so no worries there... Well, greatly appreciate your input. I'd say it's good to know it's not just me, but in this case I was hoping it WAS just me... ;) Sucks. THanks for the reply and link, Jeff
Guest xeno1 Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 I was having the same problem yesterday too when I tried to connect to the net, all I got was an error no matter what page I tried to connect to. I tried it just now though and had no problem connecting so maybe they got the problem fixed.
Guest notaliberal Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 I'm still unable to stream anything. I can get to websites no problem, because PIE will use the proxy settings. The problem is that TCPMP and Media Player will NOT use the proxy settings, so as long as T-Mobile blocks our direct access to the net via port 80, we wont' be able to stream anything. Unfortunately, I also have a 3rd party app to check my work email (called NotifyLink), and it wont use the proxy either, so now I can't get my work email delivered to my phone. My employer only allows getting email on the mobile if you use that program... ;) Ugh. That's what I get for thinking T-Mobile was actually doing something good for us...
Guest genaldar Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 With the proxy in place I can listen to MPR (Minnesota Public Radio). But suddenly after a restart my Edge is down to GPRS.
Guest notaliberal Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 With the proxy in place I can listen to MPR (Minnesota Public Radio). But suddenly after a restart my Edge is down to GPRS. The edge vs GPRS was likely just dependant on what tower you were near when you rebooted. Aside from that, it seems to be working again!!!! I can stream and use google maps again!! Thanks T-Mobile!!!!!! [never thought I'd say that without being sarcastic! ;) ] Hope everybody else is good now as well. THanks for the responses,
