Guest delmarko Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 Just got a HTC hermes (Vario II) a few days ago and wish i'd made the switch months ago, absolutely love it so far ;) . So anyway you will have to excuse me if i'm being dense.... ...but has anyone figured a way of measuring data usage on the vario II? i have installed the app that came on the t-mobile cd and sure enough this keeps track of how much i've downloaded whilst using the web on the phone however it doesn't seem to measure any usage when i use the phone as a modem. Anybody worked out a way round this or are you all using a separate app on the pc to monitor data usage via the modem? Cheers Mark

Cheers Mark Hi Mark, The full version of Phonealarm has a module that counts the GPRS data usage. This is also a must have application for its other functions (like profile switching). I am testing it and it works as it supposed to. I have seen that SPB has a specific GPRS data measure application but I have not tested it and I do not really install a supplementary application just for this function. If you test it, I would be happy to know your opinion. Regards, Murat Edited March 3, 2007 by yildi
Guest Confucious Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 Any particular reason why you need to? Spb GPRS monitor is the one that always used to brecomended and IIRC is a benefit to Modaco Plus members.

Cheers Mark I was in exactly the same position and also found that T-Mobile supplied SPB GPS Monitor cannot recognise the transmissions via the wireless modem. I emailed SPB and they confirmed that there is no way to get the current version to recognise modem usage. I did ask if there was any plans to get modem connections recognised but I am yet to hear back (and I suspect I won't now). I decided to put a monitor on the PC side and am currently using a free PC based application called NetMonitor (google it) to monitor the Dial Up connection which it does very well. OK I have to manually add the SPB data to the PC data to get an actual figure but with 3GB of allowance to use (on W'n'W Plus) I don't need to worry too much. As mentioned the program called PhoneAlarm does monitor data I/O but it is at a very basic total level only and I'm sure that like SPB can't monitor modem connections. However for a program to set profiles and provide basic phone costs monitoring it is very good and I'd recommend it.
