Guest mikeeey Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 cause here on PDAda.net it says the hermes's speakers are stereo: http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=588 or if its just 1 stereo speaker, could someone explain what that means? how is it stereo if its only 1 speaker?
Guest MPXtricky Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Stereo output - great (with headphones) One speaker (like two would be any use on a phone anyway) cause here on PDAda.net it says the hermes's speakers are stereo: http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=588 or if its just 1 stereo speaker, could someone explain what that means? how is it stereo if its only 1 speaker?
Guest mikeeey Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Stereo output - great (with headphones) One speaker (like two would be any use on a phone anyway) o alrite. 2 wouldnt be any use? wouldn't it make it sound twice as loud? how loud is the hermes and how well is the sound quality compared to a t-mobile sda or any similiar smartphone?
Guest 2004mark Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 No, two speakers would not make it twice as loud if wired up correctly, but it would indeed improve sound quality. The loud speaker on my M3100 is pants IMO, SQ even on low volume is bad. While I cannot comment on other smartphones or PPCs my girlfriend has a bog standard Nokia 8234 and the quality of the sound it superb, if it has not got two speakers it certainly sounds like it. Also my bosses Sony Ericsson W950i never distorts even at max volume. I would love my future PPC to have stereo speakers as I stream a lot of digital radio via wifi - at the moment I always try to connect it to a hi-fi if near one.

Guest 2004mark Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 I'm not sure if the poly notes matter when reproducing 'real' sound, but don't quote me on that. The output of the phone's amplifier to the loud speaker is indeed a strong one and loud when turned up - just awful quality. Whilst using the phone's 'speakerphone' when listening to voicemail for instance, anything other than the lowest setting gives a distorted rattle. This is my third hermes due to replacements and they have all been the same. IMO the speaker on the front of the phone (used for normal phone calls) is also lacking, it sounds as though it's mounted 6" behind the case. When I hook it up to my stereo in my car though the sound is fantastic, I've always got MP3's banging out. So there is obviously nothing wrong with the way it processes sound, just the speaker/s. All that said, I still think that it is a fantastic phone, even better when there is a hack for the GPS ;)

Guest 2004mark Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 Well the first one was because of a well documented screen alignment error (with the touch screen). Second one was fine, but a month or two ago I used the same excuse again just to get a new shiny one ;) (does that make me a bad person? lol)
