Hands Free shuts off microphone, possible solution?

Help!

I connect my XDA to my car stereo to listen to my music via a jack to phono lead which then plugs into the back of my stereo. Problem is as soon as something is plugged into the jack on the PDA, although nothing happens on screen to announce it, the external microphone is cut of. Obviously because if you'd plugged in your hands free you'd have a microphone there.

So I can hear my calls coming in through my car speakers but when I answer they can't hear me because the microphone on the device is off.

Is there a registry setting to change this so that the external microphone stays active even if there is something in the jack socket?
