Guest Paul (MVP) Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Kudos to member 'mdatmuser', who sent me a link to the 'Fake Memory Cards' Wiki entry. The Wiki entry, which can be found at overclockers.com.au, provides an excellent guide to identifying fake cards in a marketplace that is becoming flooded with cheap, low quality imitations. Bookmark this guide for next time you pick up that 'bargain' card on eBay! P
Guest HerpezP Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Interesting article. I don't think it would be a problem to post a picture of a real card and then sell a fake card, though. Personally I don't understand why people buy new stuff from eBay if it's easily available from a retail store or a reputable online store. It seems much safer? I have only bought stuff via eBay that I couldn't find anywhere else - like a new fascia for my C500 ;)
Guest mattbrown Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 If the missing notch on the SD card is a give away to if it is fake or not then i have bought a fake, but for 7 quid in total from ebay, i admit it is pretty much what i called magazine money and thus not to bothered if it fails (hasnt so far and have had it for about a month), i dont condone the sale of fake products though.
Guest HerpezP Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Cost! P As I recall, when I search for items they're usually equally priced or much cheaper (read: with 99% certainty either fake, stolen, or something else not really desirable). It puzzles me that people are buying such expensive devices, but aren't willing to offer those extra £10 for a card that will work flawless and fast. It seems to me like you're buying a new computer with top-notch specs, but will only buy an outdated 20 GB 4200 RPM harddrive because it saves you £50. Oh well, as long as I can decide what I am buying myself ;)
Guest JamminJP Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 that's the problem now, so much fake stuff about, if I wanted 100% genuine I would not buy from ebay! its true you get what you pay for ;)
Guest Cybertronic Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 Here's a similar Wiki entry for SanDisk MiniSD memory cards - Spot a Fake SanDisk ;)
Guest bennish Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 Basically for me it's cost and availability. Living here on the moon... I mean, australia, sometimes when something new like the ol' microsd and new high capacities come out, the only place to go is ebay. i could just wait. but i don't like to wait :D i think i may have got a fake once in the past, but it worked. The big problem i had was a fake hundred buck sony ericsson bluetooth headset. But that was my own stupid fault ;)
