Changing Roms worth it?

I have a cingular 2125 and have slowly been noticing worse battery life, slower performance and the like. Will changing roms help me out here? Also is it that hard to do? Because i cant brick my phone. if i do im screwed....

Personally I don't think changing roms is all that important and most people do it without really knowing what the benefits are.

You would be better off just doing a hard reset than a complete reflash as the slowness is probably caused by a build up of junk overtime. A hard reset is also safer than a reflash.
