Guest smurfanders Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Hi, have any of you guys found any decent replacement headphones for the SPL or better yet a 3,5mm adapter that goes into the utterly stupid usb-connector? /A\nders ...can't wait for WM6 ;)
Guest jbourdon Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Had to do my own. not very complicated. cut the original headphones. solder a 3.5 jack from Maplin on it. easy. works well. cheap. only problem: the phone switches to headset by measuring low impedance of headphones. so it works with my headphones, but doesn't if I put a cable to my hifi...
Guest Midnight Cowboy Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 I haven't found any in the UK yet, although ebay lists a couple if you don't mind paying to ship them from the US. Here's one for about a fiver all in: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BLACK-3-5MM-MIINI-US...VQQcmdZViewItem
Guest jbourdon Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 bought 2 different ones before I made my own. neither worked.

Guest Midnight Cowboy Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 Not being able to use proper headphones with it is a real pain. I bought this phone with the intention of using it as an mp3 player - but the phones that come with it (and so far, it seems, the only ones that are going to work) are utter rubbish. Darn! I think I'm going to end up sticking with my trusty SPV C500...

Thanks here you are: http://spl.fotopic.net/c1237139.html RED wire goes to copper side of the connector GREEN goes to steel side of the connector Both ~grounds go o middle (underside of the connector) Yes, I am a micro-electronics engineer, but it is so easy, just soldering skills. Have fun

Have fun Great thank you, but I have another idea, because I don't want to destroy my original headphones. I want to buy the motorola miniusb/jack 3.5 adaptor like this one: or this one + jack than I want to open the miniusb connector and cut & sold skills, but I dont know the SPL connectors. Can you tell me something about this project? Marco

Marco shame, I had bought connectors for motorola AND HPC something, but trashed them as they were useless. one thing I can tell is official motoroal usb to phone cable charges the SPL fine. I'm doing this right now with a colleague's cable yes, it is a valid solution. just have to find which wire connects to which pin. I could try to find out. what would be really cool, would be to make a connector that charges and allows headphones at the same time. but I doubt it is possible. (5pins: 1 common, maybe 2, 2headphones (left and right), 1 microphone) I think my solution fits my needs better, I as I can make use of the microphone for calls too, rather than just listen to music. If I had to do it without cutting my original headphones, I'd rather start from scratch. you may need to get thermoshrink sleeve to make it look ok-ish. the motorola connector doesn't have much lenght, it may make the process uneasy, + if you badword up ....
