Reinstalling M3100/Tytn as USB Modem

I've been using my M3100 as a USB modem with 3 laptops for a around 5 months without any probelms.

Today I had my M3100 replaced today and I've spent all evening trying to set it up as a USB modem.

I keep getting the error message "windows was unable to install the modem" whilst windows is installing the driver.

According to Microsoft the problem is this: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=883356

But it isn't.

A google search reveals lots of people with this problem, where the regitry entries are intact.

Any pointers to sort this out?
