i just read microsoft's press release on the release of windows mobile 6. i was wondering if windows mobile will run on our current windows mobile 5 devices.. if not...we will have to upgrade. i want my smartphone to run wm6.

i really wanted to get O2's Graphite but if it doesn't support WM6 then it'll be like the time i had an i-mate SP3 and WM5 came out and i cudn't upgrade:(

does anyone know if our devices will have support for wm6? if not any smartphones made for the wm6?

I am sure that most, if not all, current WM5 devices are capable of running WM6, however, that's not the issue. The issue is, will the mobile opperators release an upgrade from WM5 to WM6 for the devices we own?

Based on past experience the chances are very slim to non existant (however, I would very much like to be proved wrong -especially on T-Mobile on the Vario II ;) ). Who can blame, them the cost of developing the upgrade in the firstplace and the overhead of supporting them afterwards is high, let alone the direct cost of replacing hardware killed with a failed upgrade. However, if you are desperate to upgrade from WM5 to WM6, don't mind voiding your warranty and risking killing your device with no comeback, I am sure that very soon (if not already) there will unofficial rom upgrades to your device (try Google for them).

Best bet is if you really want WM6 is to wait for WM6 smartphones to appear, I would guess that this should be no more than 3 months until you have a decent choice.
