Understanding PPC connections, non-specific

Basically i am searching for somewhere on the net that can help me to understand the connection settings in Windows Mobile.

While i can play around with settings and eventually get a connection to work with my service provider, i would rather really understand what i am doing. For example, which connection settings are used when? Wap or Web? How does Windows mobile decide. And how about MMS, and what connection does that use? I just want to try and understand how it works.

Is there somewhere on the net to read up and understand the settings? Maybe some MS sites?

Again, a specific setting with my service provider is not the problem. I want to understand how it all fits together.
