Guest trinityj5 Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 Hi there people :D Firstly, I am new here so if this is in the wrong place or I have broken some posting etiquette please let me know!! I have just got an htc hermes on vodafone, (mangaged to get it for free! :() took delivery of it last week, loving it so far. A couple of things are slightly irritaing me, and I would love it if you guys could help me iron these out! Firstly, on my vodafone version of my Hermes, it appears not to have the option of locking the screen on my device (called device lock I think) I can live with out this, but it would be useful to have it! :) Any ideas on enabling it? Secondly, I would love to have a little plugin on my today screen showing some meters that state % of battery remaining, % of wireless signal receiving, memory being used, that sort of thing, again any ideas would be very welcome! Thirdly, I would like to have yet another today plugin that shows what applications are running, just for the hell of it! lol. Lastly, when my hermes rings it seems to only sound my ringtone about 4 times where my old nokia used to sound it about 8 times in the same period, is it just that the hermes is set up to ring less or is there an option I can change? Thanks very much in advance!! John ;)
Guest 2004mark Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 Hello. I will try to help you on a few points. First of all install magic button (listed in Pauls fav free software thread). This will let you see the running programs and shut them down, the icons of the running programs appear in the taskbar at the top. It also has a built in battery meter which is very unobtrusive. It is a very thin white bar that runs the length of your screes at the top, its only a few pixels in depth. Regarding the 'lock' button. I'm not 100% certain on this as I'm on Orange, but if you go to: Start >> Settings >> Today >> Then select a theme that isn't the Vodaphone one, like 'Windows Default' or install another. Then if you go to the 'Items' tab at the bottom you can select 'Device Lock' from there. This may even work with the Vodafone theme - not sure. Not quite sure what you mean about the ringtone, I think you mean the delay between the repeating of the tone? only guessing here but the delay may be actually part of the tone your using (a 3 second sound file with only the first second containing sound), try to find one you like from the web somewhere and install it. I think that it will need to be a WMA file for it to be seen as a ringtone.
Guest trinityj5 Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 After some more digging on the net I have managed to get the device lock working on my device by fiddling about in the registry, so thats all good ;) It was nothing to do with the themes as I think it is something to do with the vodafone rom... I am gonna have a look at magic button, thanks for the tip on that, not sure if it is totally what I am looking for but i'll look at some point! :D Meanwhile does anyone else know of any "official" meters apps, my friend that has an o2 orbit and seems to have some sort of official meters going on, I will ask him further about it tonight... The Ring tone thing, you are spot on, its the amount of time between the ring tone recurring, I have edited my ring tone down so that it has no silence at the beginning or end of the track, its still got a relatively huge gap between the repeat though, anyway of tweaking this anywhere? Cheers for all your help so far! :( John :)
