Jornada 928 backlight not working..

Dear all

I have recently purchased a Jornada 928 as I was and am hopeful that i can use the GPS feature with it. However, when the lid is lifted up the backlight flickers ever so briefly and then goes out. Otherwise it works okay ;)

When the phone is charging in the cradle, it is on albeit not very bright but when it comes off the cradle the backlight goes out.

Can anyone tell me if there is a settings problem, or is it a hardware problem ? If it's a hardware problem, is it worth getting it fixed ? if it can be fixed, how much might it cost.

If it's too much I'll consider placing it on Ebay and getting my money back.
