Hello all,

I used to have T-Mobile UK Pay-as-you-Go (PAYG) service and I was able to obtain the GPRS settings for my HTC TyTn. I can browse the web, send email, etc. from the device and also able to connect to my laptop and browse the Internet.

Today, I just signed up with T-Mobile UK contract plan and got a new device: T-Mobile MDA Compact III (WM5), which have a built-in GPS. The GPRS settings is already pre-populated and again, I can browse the Internet and connect to my laptop (as a modem). I am planning to use the new SIM card (the one with contract plan, NOT PAYG) with the HTC TyTn. When I checked the GPRS settings, it was DIFFERENT than the one I have in my HTC TyTn. Most importantly, the Username section is no longer "user", but "T-Mobile". I Googled for the new settings with this new username and I couldn't find anything.

These are the MAIN differences. Left side is the "old" GPRS settings (as shown on the Internet) and the right one is the "new" one from the MDA Compact III:

OLD - NEW

=======

Username: wap - T-Mobile

Password: user - ????

Proxy:

The NEW settings only requires one box checked: "This network connects to the Internet". Proxy IP is NO LONGER required.

Does anyone know the NEW T-Mobile GPRS settings PASSWORD? Only the username is known..

Er... just use general.t-mobile.uk APN, username user, password wap, no proxy, and it's fine.

Hmm, I think you're right. I removed the proxy, changed the username / password to user/wap and it still work. I wonder if there is anything new being implemented by T-Mobile?

Hmm, I found out that using the user/wap combo switch my connections from UTMS to GPRS very often. Usually, after I surf the net, causing large download. With the tmobile username, it didn't.

Maybe T-Mobile is cracking down on "unauthorized" wireless Internet usage?
