Hi, I am doing a research on use behaviour on the mobile phone. I may need to interview people with all kinds of experiences on using their phone. Questions are listed as follow, please feel free to leave your comments. Thanks a million!!

1. what type of mobile phone are you having with? (a standard phone, a phone with camera and mp3, a phone with Internet access or TV, Radio, etc)

2. Any particular reason for you to buy this mobile phone that you are using at the moment? (ex. bundled with subscription plan, nice looking, specific function, or need to get access to Internet)

3. What function or service on the mobile phone do you use most in your daily life?

4. to what extent will you use your mobile phone for personal information management (PIM), entertainment (watch TV from Internet or listen to MP3, etc) and doing mobile commerce (c.g. banking, stock trade, etc)

Thanks and wish all the best with you ;)

OK.

1) I have M3100 (Hermes) Pocket PC Phone.

2) I wanted something to replace both my existing phone AND the PDA that I carried around with me. I also wanted access to the Internet whilst out and about so went for an unlimited data plan as well.

3) Probably email, then phone, then Internet

4) I probably don't do any of what you list especially. I do not stream media to the phone (failed to find anything worth streaming!) I don't listen to music except while in the car - use the car CD player! Commerce I tend to do from home rather than when "mobile"

I'm not sure how many responses you want, so I thought I'd add my 2 cents in case you need it.

1. T-Mobile SDA (US version)

2. I wanted wifi and edge so I bought this phone to replace my old smartphone.

3. Internet. At work they can be touchy about us using the computers for web surfing so a lot of us read. I use the mdigger site and catch up on news. Then phone (not much of a talker, last month I used less than 100 minutes).

4. I sync with my computer just about every day, basically if I'm doing something on my pc my phone is syncing/charging. I don't really watch movies on my phone, although I used my old phone to catch up on BSG before the current season (I ripped the epps I hadn't seen and converted to divx and put them on my phone). I'm thinking of doing the same thing with Scrubs (there are still a ton of epps I haven't seen from the dvds). I never listen to music, not even in the car (usually I have MPR on the radio). And the only commerce I do is checking my account balance through my bank's phone service (I work for a different bank, which blocks all other bank's websites, they kind of suck).

Second survey, what happened with the results you recieved from last year?

Thanks for your concern. I was struggling with differentiating the choice and use behaviour last year. They are related but distinct construct according to my understanding. Now I know better about what I want from the mobile users. The first result only shown what kind of service or function do people use most, but it didn't tell me when and in what context will people use it. The behaviour for mobile phone is kinda fragmented and dynamic. So I believe I need to know more insight on use behavoiur.

The first step of second research is to find out the correlation between product choice and service plan. The marketing strategy for telecom is to bundle this two. But somehow it would either facilitate or constrain people's usage or use contexts.

The second step of research is to know to what extent will people use mobile phone for information, entertainment, and commerce and why? so I wonder and hope if you can bring more insight of your own experience to me? thanks in advance.

Thanks for your excellent reply. It's very clear that your approach is to have a phone conveneint and being able to connect to the Internet. So the next several questions I have for you are:

1. Is there any particular reason that you need to connect to the Internet?

2. In what context would you use your phone to access Internet? Some people might also have a broadband Internet and more comfortable to get access at home, isn't it?

3. As you have mentioned the use of e-commerce, is any particular reason that you prefer to use commerce at home? security? trust? or more comfortable? or other else?

Thanks and nice to know you.

Thanks for your reply. Based on your reply, would you mind telling me why you want to use your mobile phone for E-mail?

And why do you think you want to use commerce at home rather than using it from your mobile phone? Please advise again. Thanks a lot!!

1) When I am out and about it is the only practical solution.

2) Not exactly sure. I feel more comfortable doing that kind of thing from the comfort (security?) of my own home rather than while "in public"!
