Urgent!! cant send text messages with swisscom v1240

i sold a phone which i thought works great on any network. the buyer now claims that he cant send text messages and the phone resists to the changes on the text message service number. he tried to change the number under settings -> phone(1) -> calloptions (3), but after pressing "done" it goes back to blank.

any ideas?
