Right latley i've been recieving MMS message from an orange number very similar to mine. I've conatcted orange to say that these messages cause my SPV3100 to conect to the gprs system to download the message but fails to disconnect. Now i dont know the number and have contacted them by txt to say they have the wrong number yet they persist in sending me the message (about 5 or 6 a month now).

Orange say theres nothing they can do to stop this apart from having my number changed, why should i as i'm not the one in the wrong plus it's not that easy as its used for work and personal stuff i cant change easily. They also say theres no way to block the number by them. Now i suggested they block callers phone totally until the caller contacts them. Again they say they cant do this due to data protection act (bullocks i say!!!)

All they can come up with is installing some third party software to block the number on my phone. Does anyone know of any such software i can use? preferably free?

As a last ditch i can report this to the police etc but dont really wanna do that.

I use this one http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=23505

Unfortunately it doesnt block SMS/MMS - Yet!!

There was another app i trialed that did block SMS/MMS but it was too complicated for me so plumped for the one above.

They seem to work by allowing the call to ring once then blocks it - not sure if that is enough to solve your problem.

How about altering your MMS configuration to not retrieve messages immediately - thus allowing you to screen your messages bofore they are downloaded!!

Its a pain and I too get spam SMS/MMS!!

This is part of the problem. The last few times i've had these message i only found out when i looked at my fone and found it had connected to the gprs for 30 mins. I never selected the message to download, i wasnt even aware one had come but the phone had connected and downloaded it anyway and failed to disconnect.

All i get from orange is that they can't do anything. I don't believe this as i'm sure they could block that number from amking any calls as its on thier network.

Another quick point to note is that - although your phone will connect to Orange MMS to retrieve the message. The only data transfer will be the actual message. Once the message is on your phone, no further transfer will occur although your phone will stay connected. On the M3100 the MMS and 3g/GPRS connections do not auto disconnect after use.

There are 3rd party apps or reg hacks to force disconnection after an idle period.

Basically I leave my 3G connected all day but only pay for data usage when I check my email or use IE. Its the same principle for the MMS connection.

Annoying I know, but turning off the download immediately will at least only retrieve the header then its upto you if you want to get the rest of the message.
