Guest rannoch Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Time to renew contract. Considering the T-Mobile Flext20 with Web&Walk and the Vario II I have a couple of questions about the Web&Walk package. Does e-mail allow receive and send for any pop3 account (rather than a t-moble e-mail account) Does e-mail include receive and send attachments. Is HSDPA available throughout the UK. Thanks, Rannoch
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Does e-mail allow receive and send for any pop3 account (rather than a t-moble e-mail account) Yep Does e-mail include receive and send attachments. Yep Is HSDPA available throughout the UK. Nope. I think its mostly cities and large population areas at the moment. 3G is pretty widespread though and i'd assume tmob are widening HSDPA access as much as possible.
Guest pd.ryder Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 According to T's techies, HSDPA is available wherever a 3G signal is available. However, HSDPA is only available on W&W Plus or Pro, not as standard.
Guest rannoch Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 Thnaks for the information The reason for the e-mail questions was that the t-mobile shop was a definite maybe, and e-mail and all attachments is my main reason for the web'n'walk option. The HSDPA availability to standard web'n'walk is a bit more confusing. As pd.ryder says it's usually only Plus or Pro, but I've seen some reviews that say if you buy a Vario II, HSPDA is included in standard web'n'walk. The Vario II's operating system is WM5. From your experience would t-mobile offer a ROM upgrade to wm6. Rannoch
Guest pd.ryder Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 (edited) rannoch, I've seen the same comments re HSDPA, which is why I really pressed T's CS to include it. They were equally vigorous in maintaining that it was only available on Plus or Pro :D Boo! I was quite put out because I was of the impression it was 'standard issue' on W&W. WM6 - I think it unlikely T, or anyone else for that matter, will release a ROM upgrade for the Hermes variants. The new 'un - HTC Kaiser - is just around the corner with WM6Pro as standard. It's thinner, lighter & marginally smaller and will be the next 'must have' for anyone with a Vario II to lust after ;) Edited March 25, 2007 by pd.ryder
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 Hmm apologies for the confusion. i'd gone on what i'd heard from Vario II users. Also while i'm sure TMob like to think they have as much HSDPA as 3G i doubt that is actually the case?
Guest rannoch Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 Thanks again for the advice, Ill wait for the new crop to come out. Regards, Rannoch
Guest rannoch Posted March 27, 2007 Report Posted March 27, 2007 This is an extract of an e-mail received from T-Mobile. BTW I'm not Michelle - she is the t-mobile customer support person I sent the question to! "Hello Michelle Thanks for you email about HSDPA. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention today Michelle, I can assure you I'll do all I can to resolve this fro you today. With all out Web ?n? Walk plans the HADPA is built in, so if you decide to choose to use the MDA Vario II with the Web ?n? Walk standard, the HADPA will be on the account automatically. You can visit our website at www.t-mobile .co.uk for a list of our phones and plans available. I?m glad you?ve given me the chance to look into this for you Michelle and I?m grateful for the patience you?ve shown. I trust this information puts your mind at rest and I?ve explained everything clearly for you. Thanks again for taking the time to email me, if you have any further queries please feel free to reply to this email and I?ll be happy to help. Kind regards Dawn Hiscocks Customer Service Email Team T-Mobile" So, from the above, I assume that HSPDA is available on the standard web'n'walk package. Rannoch
Guest pd.ryder Posted March 28, 2007 Report Posted March 28, 2007 As I said, I'd heard this too. I checked options available on 'My T-Mobile' and, sure enough, the HSDPA option is there but only at extra cost which effectively takes the w&w option up to Plus or even Pro. I was told by store staff it was inclusive too. CS staff have been very apologetic but equally insistant that I've gotta put hand to pocket before I can get it.

I'd rather have it in writing (in a brochure, or on the website - not the sugary e-mail they sent back). Wonder if you have any come back through Trading Standards. Regards, Rannoch
