Stupid me... lost all my contacts

OK, newbie error...

After playing with the phone for a few months I wanted to start installing applications from scratch after installing and deleting quite a few.

So I synched it with my new desktop, copied the contents of the memory to my computer, and did a hard reset.

Synched back and I got no contacts as I had forgotten to install Outlook in my new computer and therefore no contacts had been synched to it!!!

Is there any way to recover my contacts from any of the files I backed up from the phone memory? Surely they must be stored somewhere! But I can't find it.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

As far as I know there is no way to get them back.

As a tip for the future though, SPb Backup is very good and will create a nice .EXE that you can run on a new device or a hard-reset device to reinstate all of your contacts etc.

I think that the file you need is called pim.vol, if you backed that up, you may be able to use this to get your info back.

Indeed- pim.vol is a file in the root of 'My Device' and contains all contact, calendar and task information.

If you succeeded in copying it to your PC during the backup process, you can restore it with a bit of trickiness!

First, you need to locate the current copy of pim.vol on your Hermes. You would do well to use a fully featured file explorer for this, or at least enable 'Show All Files' in the built-in file explorer. You can use ActiveSync/Explore if you prefer. Now, rename the existing pim.vol to something else- pim.old or suchlike, because the system won't let you overwrite the file.

Now copy the backed up version from the PC to the My Device (root) folder, and wait about 30secs, then do a soft reset. This ought to give you back your data, which you can now sync with the new copy of Outlook.
