Automatcally delete old sms messages

This might be a total noob question, but in WM2005 smartphone, is there a way to have the phone automatically delete old sms messages?

I have a T-Mobile Dash, and my messaging screen was taking forever to open anytime someone sent me a message, and then I realized why... I had over 700 text messages in my in-box. On my Motorola Razr, there was s setting to only keep X number of messages and the phone automatically deleted any more than that as new ones came in.

Is there functionality like this in WM2005, or will I need to use a 3rd party application to delete the messages or as the application that handles my text messaging.
