Guest zerbo Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 (edited) Hi Guys and Gals, (I tried to place this in the news section but i dont have access so thought the next best thing would be to post it here. Although if one of the nice admin staff would like to move it for me that would be great. If you fancy playing around or even just taking a looking at Mobile 6 here's how are to ways to you can: Method 1 - Visual Studio 2005 Method There are three files you will need to download and install in the following order: Device Emulator 2.0 Beta http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=13F5DE85-30CD-4506-9C5B-A2068FA1EE9E&displaylang=en Compact Framework 2.0 SP1 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=7BEFD787-9B5E-40C6-8D10-D3A43E5856B2&displaylang=en Windows Mobile 6 Professional SDK http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=06111A3A-A651-4745-88EF-3D48091A390B&displaylang=en (N.B you also need to have Visual Studio 2005 with SP1 and ActiveSync 4.5 installed) 1. Once you have installed all of the above three components, launch the Device Emulator from your Start Menu | Microsoft Device Emulator 2.0 Preview | Device Emulator Manager 2. The Device Emulator Manager window should appear along with a treeview listing of all of the Windows Mobile emulators present in your system. 3. Right click on the Windows Mobile 6 Professional Emulator item and select Connect: That is all there is to it. After a few seconds, a window will appear containing a generic WiMo device running the new Windows Mobile 6 Professional. You can use your mouse and keyboard to use it. As far as I know, you cannot make actual phone calls from within the emulator though Method 2 - Stand Alone Method You'll need to download the following packages from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads. I've included the approximate sizes as well: Virtual PC 2007 aka VPC07 = 31MB Visual Sudio 'Orcas' CTP aka VSO = 7.3GB Device Emulator 2.0 aka DEMU2 = 900K WM6 SDKs = 550MB WM5 Standalone ROMs = 59MB (optional) Here's the order of the steps: Install VPC07 on host Install VSO on host Configure VSO virtual machine in VPC07 Launch VSO virtual machine Miscellaneous activation & setup inside VSO virtual machine Copy DEMU2 & WM6 SDKs into VSO virtual machine Install DEMU2 inside VSO virtual machine Install WM6 SDKs inside VSO virtual machine Copy WM6 binary files from VSO virtual machine to host Copy WM6 XML & related wrapper files from VSO virtual machine to host Install DEMU2 on host Install WM5 Standalone ROMs (optional) Manually create Device Emulator shortcuts for launching various WM6 emulators Caveats to this method: This requires scads of space & RAM The VSO VMC required 21GB of space at the funlab, after the miscellaneous setup & WM6 SDKs were installed VSO VMC requires 1GB RAM free to run Running emulators show as OS 5.2.318 (Build 15342.0.0.0) Certain new features of WM6 are absent Voice Command Enjoy Edited March 29, 2007 by zerbo
