Guest rossy Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 There seems to have been little talk in the forums of this supposed April ROM update. Can anyone actually confirm that it exists, and if so what are the supposed changes. Hope it is true...... cos that means its here in 4 days!!! And now we can use it unlocked......
Guest Hax Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 The main reason for this update having been talked about is that it is needed for the drivers for the "fabric" keyboard to work. Don't know what other differences there will be though, but will probably close the "unofficial" ulocking route at a guess - but that doesn't matter so much does it  Hax
Guest midnight Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 well, if its like the ohter uk update, it will basically mirror that of the dk update, so, we should expect a 'half-working' sms character count aswell
Guest Maverick Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Gawd.. Hope it isnt like the waiting we had for the last one !! That too on Fools Day ! :-P I saw some guys were waiting until 12 in the night to check if the update has been posted by Orange !
Guest Cymruan Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 surly these updates could just be released as little patches or just drivers that can be downloaded over orange update, wasnt that the point of it???
Guest Firaas Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 I saw some guys were waiting until 12 in the night to check if the update has been posted by Orange ! Hey I was up anyway ;P
Guest Vector Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 And me, O really do know how to mess with people
Guest Will Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 I have heard that a UK/DK version is already on some phones, (the ones obtained from CBIT, i belive had build 136xx - and were not danish! Of course these had the decert loophole (now obselete) removed. Will So there IS another suitable update available.
Guest fraser Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 surly these updates could just be released as little patches or just drivers that can be downloaded over orange update Technically, yes. However, it's a testing nightmare, especially if you allow users to selectively choose which updates to install. Any further updates have to be fully tested in every known configuration. When you make lots of small patches, the number of configurations rises exponentially.
Guest mcwarre Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 I spoke to O and they knew nothing about it. Their techies kept saying it was the normal update, not the ROM update required to run the SPV keyboard. When I got them to look at the ORA website where it mentions the ROM update they said "errr, we will get back to you". Guess what?
Guest okocha10 Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 im not bothered about another update. The last one was too much hastle for my liking!+ its stopped me using the streaming radio, the speed of my fone hasnt dramatically increased nor has the battery life! And i hardly/never use the 2 new programs that came with it. Also i cant do a full backup because i cant get USBTerm to work!
Guest ragegames Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Guys, I think everyone has misunderstood the meaning of the ORA website info about the keyboard. It said words to the effect of "note that this will require an update from Orange. Available April 1st". They simply mean the keyboard is available from April 1st (this matches the style of the entries for the carphone kits, available 16th April or so etc.) and that you need to have had the recent update from Orange. 8) Peter
Guest Firaas Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Hmm. Maybe, although it actually seperates the "available April 1st" with a dash rather than fullstop, which is suggestive of it being and its meaning being based on part of that sentence. NOTE : This product requires updated ROM drivers etc from Orange - available April 1st. Unfortunately Ora are closed, and therefore aren't able to clarify this.
Guest mcwarre Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Gents, An update IS needed. I have a keyboard and the SPV doesnt recognize it! I called ORA (in case kfyboard faulty) and they said that they are fed up with O not telling people about it. O not keeping people informed? Surley not!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Wirefree and level 2 support know "nothing they can comment on" about it. I believe even Neil Enns at MS couldn't use it....
Guest Ethanol Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 So nobody knows for sure if and when the update is then :?
Guest casper508 Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 Remeber last time round OCS didnt have a clue as to when the update was to be released. I think I'll wait to see if something relavent appears on the O site. Cas
Guest Rob.P Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 Take the easy route and sign up with the Personal News and request SMS notification on the "SPV Update" stories, then you can forget about trying to find out about them and Orange will notify you when there is an update.
Guest mcwarre Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 Orange Level 2 support and their techies have finally replied saying that a microsoft update is required. They have no plans to do one for the keyboard. Microsoft don't seem to have anything on their site.... Excellent a snazzy keyboard that can't be used as one. Paul, How about a new topic on what it can actually be used for? A stand which keeps the dust out of the phone connector?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 Start one in Off Topic if you like, a poll maybe?
Guest mcwarre Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 Mono, Notice that you haven't changed your clock.............
Guest Bazz Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 Take the easy route and sign up with the Personal News and request SMS notification on the "SPV Update" stories, then you can forget about trying to find out about them and Orange will notify you when there is an update. They haven't every released a news story under that topic - even for the old update!
Guest Richie M Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 They haven't every released a news story under that topic - even for the old update! Er yes they did, i got a txt saying that the Update was ready to download, and i know other people here got it aswell
Guest Bazz Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 Ooops. Well I wasn't signed up for texts, but did have it marked as a personal news item and never saw anything in it. Maybe I just missed it but I still don't see one in it now and I thought they kept them around for a while...
Guest Rob.P Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 Unfortunately they don't hang around for long, I got the text, checked the story and a day or so after that it was gone. It does work though, about the only thing that Orange have got right, (sorry O I was only joking, there's no need to break it just cause it's working  )
