Insurance & Screen protectors for Vario II on T-Mobile UK

Hi,

I am thinking of purchasing a Vario II from t-mobile UK this week and I have a couple of questions that perhaps some of you can help with:

1. Can you recommend a good screen protector for the Vario II please, where to purchase them from and what I should be looking for? I have seen numerous different makes out there and just wonder what you guys have found to be the best make for the Vario II?

2. Can anyone recommend a good insurance package for the Vario II? I am told by a friend that the insurance offered by T-mobile is a tad pricey - what do you guys think about that? If so, have any of you found any other good insurance deals for mobile smartphones either by themselves or tied in perhaps with other PC kit such as laptops? Do these insurance plans cover just the phone being replaced if stolen or damaged or do they cover calls made on your mobile if stolen, etc, etc?

3. Any other buying advice, tips re the Vario II and T-mobile UK?

All advice and comments appreciated.

Thanks,

Tawse.

Thanks, out of interest, how much does the Orangecare cost per month?

Er, five or six pounds I think - mine is included in the monthly package. £15 admin fee per claim. From memory it is better than T mobiles insurance.

Its all about the data package with this phone tho. I have the mysterious OWU. If you have reception on T mobile, the WnW package is probably the way to go.

Thanks, yes I am going to go with the web and walk.

T-mobile want £8.99 per month insurance and I have heard that there are cheaper packages available from third parties.

Check with your Credit Card or Bank company, lots of the higher end accounts offer extras like Mobile Phone Insurance that most people don't realise they have.

As for a screen-protector, I'd recommend using one. T-Mobile provide a basic sticky back plastic one for you to use for free in the box. It'll do until you can do a bit more research into other ones out there (look for a few threads in this section with recommendations)

Screen protector - Martin Fields Overlay Plus

Insurance - I've already got accidental damage/loss outside the house as part of my house insurance - worth checking to see if it can be added.

Agree about the Martin Fields - you can actually see through them unlike the TMob included one!

I have always wondered about the worth of using the house insurance. Assuming you have a handset fault outside the warranty period, which is pretty easy since we are all being signed up to 18 month contracts now and then you are perhaps unlucky enough to lose or break your phone that is two claims you have had on your house insurance in a short period of time. Come renewal time they are going to get that money back from you. In spades. I would rather have a seperate phone insurance personally but Tmob do seem to charge exorbitantly and their 'admin charges' (read excess) are double those on Orange. TBH that would be the only thing I could think of that Orange actually did better than TMob.

Mt partner got a great insurance deal from Carphone Warehouse. Costs £8 a month and after 6 months of an 18 month contract she can choose to quit the contract and the insurance will settle outstanding balance. Don't know what becomes of her phone.

She got a Shine on 02 but I think it is some sort of in store insurance deal they have.

I got my Vario II from mobiles.co.uk and have £5.50 a month protection from a company they are partnered with.
