Vodafone v1240 device password locked??

Hi all,

I have inherited a Vodafone v1240 smart phone which is locked with a device password.

My father who gave me the phone does not know the password.

Is there any way to unlock the phone?

Would hard-resetting the phone return the password to default? If so, how do I do this?
