Had the SPV 500 and 600 for the last couple of years, love the windows mobile and the sync'ing etc

Contract is up and not sure which upgrade to go for??? SPV M700 or E650 Vox?

GPS would be cool on the phone, but so would a keyboard! have never had either so tough call.

Apart from WM5/WM6 issues anything else worth thinking about? would be tempted to get bluetooth GPS reciever if i went for the Vox?

Whadaya reckon?

(Sorry for the classic newbie post!)

The big difference is the Smartphone / PPC issue

If you want a phone with PDA functionality go for the Vox

If you want a PDA with phone functionality go for the M700

The M700 will be slightly awkward to use as a phone (things like the lack of number keys, tactile feedback from the screen etc), where as the Vox will be awkward for some of the PDA functions (smaller screen, some functions shoe-horned in)

I've been back and forth between PPC and Phones for a while, and I've reverted to phones for the last 2 or 3 handsets - for me they are a better fit. Only you can answer that question for yourself though.

Unless you specifically need something from the PPC version of Windows Mobile, or *really* need built in GPS, it has to be the Vox really ;) I've swtiched back and forth between PPC and Smartphone for years now and i still prefer SP as a primary device, with a PPC in reserve should i need to extra flexibility.

Just to throw another spanner in the works, Orange UK have just added the (3G/HSDPA) Samsung i600 to their line up!

Thanks for the advice, i think that's the issue i am chewing over. Never had a PDA, but seem be using my phone less these days, and like the idea of a PDA!

for me, the biggest operational issue is the touchscreen on a PPC.

It does give an element of usability when doing things like selecting multiple files as well as ease of use to action things with a tap and hold style but... It gives it a fragility a smartphone doesn't have.

As an example, i use my Magician as the cars MP3 player using Mortplayer but it keeps the screen active. This means that if the FM transmitter connected to it gets jiggled ontop, it will invariably start skipping/muting/exiting at will. Pain in the proverbial! I know i could probably configure some elaborate button mashing lock but that makes it much more hazardous to use whilst driving (*cough* excuse me officer?) to quickly get at the office functions.

for me, i'm having the Vox... the WiFi makes it good enough at home, and GPRS is fast enough for Messenger and essential t'internetting. As for GPS, i used to use my PPC for a Satnav too but it started falling over too often so i plumped for a new TomTom One once i knew i was going to go Smartphone again. for that application alone a touchscreen is a must - again, all to do with the hazard factor when at the wheel.

so it will always be a 'piece of string' question but you need to evaluate the real world use you will be getting the new toy for. think of the 80% use it will get rather than the 20% flashiness of any given function - keyboard on Vox and the GPS in the M700..

and Welcome to Modaco!

I'm pondering the same question upgrade from C600 to E650 or "other", one of the things that will sway me is whether I will be able to run my Tom Tom Mobile on the E650.

... will I?
