Guest RobbyC Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 Ok, so im a newbie...and I know that on other forums people that come on having made no posts aka no contribution to the forum are really annoying but im quite stuck and i know that this is a good forum as i used it to buy my spv a month ago... I have the MP3100, its about a month old. Recently (the last few days) its been playing up.. Whilst using the phone the windows start button would keep selecting then deselecting 10-15 times at a time, and every programe/app i went into it would shut down almost straight away. I put this down as to some sort of screen error, but then i noticed when putting it on charge that night that the notification LED went red, then went off, and then turned into the solid amber which is normally goes straight to...battery error perhaps? Now it seems that if i leave it off (with battery out) for about 15 minutes then turn it on it seems to work fine but then about 5 minutes later the touch screen becomes completely unresponsive, cannot use it at all. Now I'd rather try and solve the problem than get a new phone as i have a few texts/files on there that i want to keep for sentimental reasons. So i was wondering if people had any ideas, or if the screen can be replaced (by orange, im not paying lol) without the texts etc being wiped. or does anyone know how to copy them on this phone onto the sim card so i can take them from phone to phone etc, then i can just get a new handset, which is what i'd do ideally. Thanks in advance...
Guest jimbouk Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 Have you installed any third party applications? If so, try removing the last one you added. It sounds like something isnt happy. If that doesnt work, I would sync and then hard reset/clear storage (but you will lose any pics/texts etc on the device's main memory).
Guest RobbyC Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 (edited) cheers for the reply, i havent installed anything, as far as its concerned its as clear as it was of app's from when it came out the box... do you know a way I can save texts, even if its onto the computer which i can then wack on the new phone if i go down that route? EDIT - I did text AQA (answer all questions) as a bit of a joke, asking what i should do...they reckon take the sim out, turn it on run it through the opening sequence then turn it off again, then put sim back in again??? Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 To be honest it sounds like a hardware fault. Something like the top of the casing around the screen is pressing on the touch sensetive area, hence the Start menu going mad and apps closing. I'd suggest a hard reset (take a look in the Hermes/M3100 forum stickies for instructions) after backing everything up using Activesync for calendar/contacts and files, and Jeyo Mobile Companion for SMS messages. If that doesnt help you'll have to get the handset replaced or repaired i'm afraid! Welcome to the forum btw! ;)
Guest RobbyC Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 cheers for responses. you have a message. your not too far from me, i live in fleet..
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Obviously Activesync can be used for pics, vids, files, contacts and calendar etc. Jeyo Mobile Companion has a free trial here (but its an excellent app, well worth the money) that can back up SMS messages: http://www.jeyo.com/companion.asp The Hermes (M3100) forum is here: http://hermes.modaco.com and this thread will give you info on how to hard reset your device: http://www.modaco.com/How-to-hard-reset-th...es-t243915.html As i say, if that doesn't fix your problem you'll have to arrange or a repair or replacement.
