Hi,

I am thinking of buying a 2GB microsd card for my Vario II and wonder what make and type you guys recommend?

I am thinking of getting a 2GB sandisk but notice that they have two 2GB microsd cards - one that appears to be the bog standard one and one that is called the ultra II which has reported faster read write speeds?

My initial thought is that the faster one would be best but is it possible that the faster speed could causes issues?

I am using the Vario II with co-pilot so any advice on the best microsd to get would be welcome.

Thanks,

Tawse.

the faster one will not cause issues, unless u buy one online that is artificially made. the real ones are great. and if the phone can take advantage of the speeds it's great for video recording. i cant say for sure the vario II can take full advantage of it, but im sure it would be worth getting a ultra II.

i didnt know they had 2gb micro SD's. is it SanDisk Memory?

on sandisk.com the highest ultra II memory for micro is 1GB

Yes, these are legit 2 GB micro SD cards from Sandisk as several legit UK retailers I use are all selling the same one. I was not impressed with the Sandisk site as I found that it gave the same specs for both the 'ordinary' micro SD cards and the Ultra IIs, did not show all their range as you have found out and they also have a selector that tells whether you phone works with the memory or not - they have a Vario listed but not a Vario II.

It's useful getting a faster one as you may want to plug it into a card reader to transfer large files as the Vario II doesn't support USB2 it can be slow. Also if you end up getting a new phone with different memory having a faster card would be useful if you want to THEN use it for something else, ie. digital camera or putting in a card reader to use with Vista ReadyBoost which I'm going to do with my old M500 full size 2Gb Ultra II SD Card.

I use a San Disk Ultra II 2Gb card in my vario II, with no problems. It does seem faster than the bog standard cards when reading and writing, and especially when I transfer files directly to it in the reader on my laptop.

I would recommend it.

Just out of interest (slight hijack, sorry) but what do I need to do with a new micro SD card I've just got? Does it need formatting somewhere (PC, phone etc) or do I just slot it in and it's recognised?

Thanks
