WiFI signal strength problems with HTC P3300/Artemis

Dear all

Newbie posting here - have watched this site for a while and used Paul's (very useful) reviews to select my new HTC.

However I am really struggling with the WiFi signal on this device - basically I can only get full signal strength when I am sat right next to a router (within 6 inches) - as I move further away I lose about 25% every 2 feet, so therefore by about 8 feet away I am not getting a reliable signal that the device can cling onto. This seems mad, and certainly renders the device unuasble in the real world.

So let's get the obvious out of the way - I have set WM5 to maximum signal. I do understand that pervasive devices will never give as strong a signal as a full wireless card in a PC or laptop, but this is MUCH worse than anything I have experienced with other PDAs (such as iPaqs)

I have sent the device back to HTC for repair, where they replaced the main board, but it is no better. Their UK office is now stumped as to what the problem is.

Ideas greatly appreciated, as well as comments from other users that might help me support a case to HTC.
