Guest Driekus Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 (edited) Hi everyone, Just curious: how old is your device? I have a T-mobile MDA Compact (magician) which I bought secondhand (yeah I'm cheap) and use daily (intensively) and is now over 26 months old. I've never even owned a Nokia that did that! I did buy an extra battery, but that's what it is: extra, not replacement. Am I just lucky or are these HTC devices really tough? I have to admit I always keep it in a silicon case, so I don't think I've ever really dropped it. But still, if I compare it to my wife's fancy Sony Ericsson design phones I think the lifespan is quite impressive (although my wife does drops her phone every now and then... occasionally... regularly.... okay, okay, almost on a daily basis, one time she even managed to accidently catapult it over several meters with an elastic band/binder, still don't know how that happened exactly ;) ). I know a lot of you buy new ones every year or even more often than that, but for our financially challenged friends like me (every time I can have my contract renewed I have to get my wife a new phone :D : How old is your device? Cheers Driekus Edited April 20, 2007 by Driekus
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 I'm actually a little out of date at the moment, using my Wizard as my primary WM device (got its about 18 months ago!). I'll soon rectify that once i get hold of a Vox though ;)
Guest Disco Stu Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 Have recently revived my Magician - an iMate Jam - which I think I bought back in December 2004. Doesn't time fly ! It has never given me any real problems and wears its dents and scars with pride. Unlike yer average Smartphone it doesn't seem to mind the occasional beerbath :D None of the WM05 Pocket PCs has tempted me to upgrade but I too might be swayed by the Vox ;)
Guest The Doctor Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 Bought my Vario II in November 2006 which has been the best phone I've ever owned (apart from the battery life :D) Before that I had a Qtek 8310 since January 2006, sold that about 2 months ago. Before that I had a hurricane from August 2005 which I still have. And earlier still, I had my Typhoon from December 2004 which I sold yesterday. Ok branching out into smartphones a bit there but there you go ;) Phil
Guest Ovie Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 Just got my SPVM700 which is a week-old, and loving it. Good times to come, although I think I'll upgrade to the Kaiser in a year's time..
Guest Mr_Blonde1971 Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 Got my M500 (Magician) in November 2005 and still going strong, But not for much longer....as soon as the E650 (Vox) is back in stock i shall be ordering as an upgrade?
Guest magic_peanuts Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 I will usually change my phone as soon as the next best one comes along or I get bored. I carry two phones too so it gets expensive but I gave up smoking 2 years ago and I mentally put £10 a day towards my next phone  Current setup is an Ameo which selectively call forwards (phoneAlarm is a hugely under rated program) to an HTC S710 which in turn is auto answered by my Plantronics Voyager 510 bluetooth headset when I am driving. Next up are the HTC S730 (Wings) which will replace my 2 week old S710 and if I get sick of the size of the Ameo I will get the Kaiser when it comes out. My wife recently upgraded me to uber-geek status... :P
Guest Webreaper Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 14-month-old XDA Mini S (Wizard) which is in excellent shape. Thanks to helping beta-test the new version of PhoneAlarm I was maneuvered into hard-resetting last week (for the first time in 6 months), and it's given the device a whole new lease of life - WLAN connects in seconds (instead of 30-40s), emails download almost instantly, and the phone just works well. Only physical defect is that 3-4 weeks ago the 'catch' that holds the stylus in finally gave up the ghost, so I've had to wrap a piece of selotape around said stylus to keep it firm. Other than that it's almost like new. Should do me nicely for another 6 weeks or so until it's replaced by a P4450/Kaiser (and not before time - my 12-month contract is well past its end).
Guest Pete2 Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 Still got my xda2 and 2i (was using the xda2 again recently as i smashed the screen on my mio A701 and was waiting to get it repaired). The xda2 must be about 4 years old now, still like to mess about with it - flashing roms. The 2i's gathering dust at the mo - might give it to my dad to play with.
Guest PayableOnDeath Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 18month old wizard still going strong , few scratches from when I dropped it once :D stylus still fits perfectly, no selotape fixes for me :P 2 year 6 month old C500 (HTC Typhoon) still going strong too, still use too, ideal for nights out,etc where you need a smallish phone that fits nicely in your pocket
Guest FerretAD Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 Just recently got the SPV M600, only about a month or so ago - Loving it. Before that, I had the SPV C550, which was just over a year old - That was a good phone to me, it's got plenty of battle scars !
Guest magic_peanuts Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 Was having a bit of a clear up last night and I've found my original SPV and my original XDA. I've kept them both as they were the first true Smartphone and Pocket PC respectively. I've kept them boxed and in good condition and both booted up fine although I can't believe how sluggish and feature lacking they both are, it really is amazing to think how far things have come.
Guest chucky.egg Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 ...I gave up smoking 2 years ago and I mentally put £10 a day towards my next phone... Jeez, how much did you smoke? I've still got my first C500 (and the second one too), a Magician, a Prophet, a Wizard, a C600, an XDA IQ, and my current one (an SGH-I600). They all still work, and most are in good condition. I'll have to find them a new home soon as we're moving house
Guest magic_peanuts Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 Jeez, how much did you smoke? 40 a day
Guest Mr_Kev Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 (edited) Good man for giving up, I gave up end of Jan this year....right back on topic.... I got a HTC Trinity (was branded Orange M700) a week ago Love it so far, just ironin out a few more issues Edited May 24, 2007 by Mr_Kev

Guest shanedean Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 I got an XDA2i which I got in February 2005! Still works fine except that the digitizer seems to be dead around the Signal bar bit at top of screen. Yeah, few scratches but still gets used as phone, sat nav and movie player
Guest Eric Woolhiser Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 I still have a Kyocera 7150 (Palmpilot) I think it's four years old now. It's missing a couple of screws, but due to the magic of duct tape, the battery stays in. ;) I suppose it might be worth a change, especailly after I figure out how to write stuff for these things.
