Guest present Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Not having much luck getting this working - is there an alternative Java client or something I can use? Anyone had any luck with this?
Guest pd.ryder Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 I've always read my gmail as webmail. I gather there is the option to use pop3 for gmail which is switched on in gmail options menu, which you could then Send/Receive as you would any other pop3/IMAP account. Is this what you're refering to, or have I missed something ;) :D

Guest Dr Who Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 they have this rad Java app - http://www.google.com/mobile/mail/index.html that's what I'm trying to get working - much nicer than the mobile web interface.. Its never worked on my Vario II either. Curiously it does work for some people. There was some talk of it working with a different Java engine but I am fairly sure I have tried both the default one and whatever the recommended other one was and neither worked for me.
Guest argh Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 (edited) Works (mostly) fine on my M3100 with intent MIDlet Manager v10.1.7.564 Only thing I've noticed is that on one of the screens, the right soft key seems to bring up a menu, but it's invisible. I may try another MIDlet manager to see if that fixes it. Edit: Just tried v11.1.7 and no change to the menu, but I did find out that the menu appears properly if I try to cancel sending the email (left soft key when composing), then say I don't want to cancel. The right soft key then correctly brings up the menu. Edited April 24, 2007 by argh

Guest argh Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 interesting - where did u download the intent midlet thing from? thanks! Oops sorry, haven't checked back in a while. I got it from XDA dev but as I say, it didn't seem to add anything to the gmail app over the previous version. Apparently it helps with Opera Mini and some other apps though.
Guest argh Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 gmail works fine under wm6 on the hermes, just add it as a new email account It works fine like that under WM5 too  There's the problem that if you retrieve the first few kb of the message, then opt to download the complete message, it won't be picked up by your desktop POP3 later, though. Do you know if that issue is still present with WM6? (sort of waiting for Black 3 before updating :P )
