Hi guys, Need mucho help...

Regarding Windows Mobile 5

it it known that data is not loss if battery is removed. But for how long?

If i removed a phone's battery for 1 month, or 5mths, would data stay intact during this period?

Is there any confirmation that a2dp will play back in stereo?

Lets say a device has 1gb storage space and 64mb ram.

device shows

Storage : 760+mb in storage wheres the remaining?

Program : 48mb where is the remaining 18mb

WM5 uses persistant storage which I think is based on flash memory. Theoretically it shouldn't matter how long you have the battery removed, all data on the phone should remain intact. The safest way to keep your data if you're removing the battery for such a long time though is to take a backup first.

Can't help with the a2dp question...I'm sure there's plenty of people on here who can though!

As far as the memory question goes, I assume by "Storage" you are referring to the internal storage and not an SD card. As far as I'm aware, WM5 uses dynamic memory management - i.e. if more memory is needed for programs, it will reduce the capacity of Storage and use the memory for programs....and the same goes the other way too. I could be wrong but that's my understanding of it. There's people on here a lot more clued up than I am so I'm sure you'll get a more definitive answer to your questions! ;)

Thanx everton,

but where am i able to find a gurantee that data will not be lost? Does MS gurantee it?

If the device has 64mb RAM for programs

and in device memory it shows 48mb only. Where does the remaining RAM go to?

OK, if you're talking about the memory that is "advertised" on your phone as memory for adding programs, etc. on your phone, then the rest of the "missing" memory that you're wondering about is being used by the windows program itself and any other programs that came installed on it. If you were to completely remove windows and every other program installed on the phone and were still able to see the amount of memory it would be the 64 Mb it was said to have. If you erased windows though you wouldn't be able to see anything though because your phone wouldn't work anymore.

Now, if you were asking about the memory the phone was "advertised" as having for running programs, then the same as your desktop, there are processes for different programs all running at the same time, each using a little bit of memory. There's only one way to regain that memory and that is to shut some of the processes down. The thing is there is that just like your desktop, if you shut the wrong processes down your phone will either become very unstable or shut down all together. Just to let you know though, if you decide that you want to do that for some reason, theres not really any danger in accidentally shutting the wrong process down. If you do all you have to do to restore it is to reboot your phone and it will start back up.

And, the memory stored on your phone is stored there magnetically and theoretically should last forever unless you expose it to high temperatures or a strong magnetic field. In actuality, after a few years or so some of that data would probably be lost, and No, no one including Microsoft would ever guarantee that that data would stay there forever.
