Need somewhere to let off steam and I can't update my blog for some reason at the moment.

I need a bit of cash after splashing out for an Ameo so I decide to sell off a couple of things I'm not really using on eBay. I sell my Nikon DSLR and my M3100 and after the auctions finish I promptly get paid through Paypal. I send £400 back to my bank account and hop back on ebay to have a browse.

Woohoo, shopping time! I need a new computer desk, buy it now, click, bought. Come to think of it, my chair is looking a bit tatty... you get the picture. Anyway, I racked up about £400 worth of bits. So I go to pay for my auctions all at once by Paypal (as eBay kindly let you do) and as I sign in I see:

'Accounts with limited access cannot send funds'

WTF? Turns out they've suspended my account due to unusual and suspicious activity. So I call them and ask them what the f*ck the problem is and apparantly receiving £800 worth of payments is unusual activity. Can't really argue with that as I don't sell much on ebay. I do have a problem however with what they want me to do:

1) Verify my bank account by confirming sums of money deposited (5 working days)

2) Verify my address by them calling my home number. No problem, except that despite my number being in the phone book for the last f*cking 5 years, their database doesn't recognise it. So they have to send me a letter. How long will that take? 9 working days!!

3) Confirm my business details. I do run a business but my Paypal account is private so what the hell is that about?

4) Provide tracking details of the items to be sent. OK, but can they guarantee I will get my money when they're done pissing about? You bet you're arse they can't so I'm slightly reluctant to send them.

5) Provide invoices for the purchase of what I sold? I bought my M3100 from a guy in a tube station for cash 8 months ago!!

When they have all this information they then have to 'review my case'. Review what? Whether I get to keep the money that is legally mine? F$%*$%* c$%£!!!!

If anyone has been in a similar situation and has any advice I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Paul

That sucks ;)

Have they actually suspended it with money in there then?

Yes, £833 of my money is sat in Paypal's account earning interest and I'm not looking at seeing any of it for about 3-4 weeks. They've even charged me £14 for a failed bank transfer when they cancelled it!!

I've had to contact 7 eBay sellers to let them know I can't pay them - that was fun :D

Another bad paypal experience :/ Personally i never keep money in my paypal, as soon as its in there from a sale i'll transfer it out to my bank account. Any purchases i make i pay directly through my creditcard so the cash is never actually in there, plus i get fraud protection from the cc provider.

I never said paypal were infalible, but there arent really any alternatives which are as flexible. Like i say though, as long as you're careful you *should* be ok (obviously not always though )

There may well be an alternative soon.......Google have started a checkout service and it looks as though they are gunning for loads of business offering it free to online shops...
